Anyone know where I can get a video of Swen Swenson. i am particularly interested in his performance of I've Got Your Number from Little Me, but I'll take anything..
I saw Little Me three times during the first two months of its original run and Swenson stopped the show cold with that number each time. Let me know if you have any luck -- I'd like a copy too.
Ed! Where the heck have you been??? Nice to see you on the boards, again.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
In one of the books about Fosse, Swen claims that his partial strip for "I Got Your Number" caused such an audience reaction that women ran up to the stage. I've always doubted this--but love the story. He certainly looked fetching in a bowler hat...
Isn't that funny, I was just talking a few days ago about Swenson with a friend. On the original cast recording, his performance of "I've Got Your Number" is a great example of a performer taking a new song and "getting" it and making it entirely his. I too would just love to see a video. Did he ever do it on TV. That was the golden era of variety shows, after all.
The partial strip was jacket, tie, waistcoat and sleeve garters and that's about it. I know Nureyev did the routine on a tv special...was it a Julie Andrews show?...apparently with the original choreography.

Wow, thanks! I had no idea about that! It looks like there's a video of it at New York Public--on my list now for the next time I'm there. (Unless somebody has better luck than me finding it on YouTube?)
