Small dose of praise swimming in a sea of criticism (some of which I think is valid to a lesser degree) from Matthew Murray.

Poor choice of words for his opening sentence.

Yeeesh. I opened it to see what you were talking about, not sure I had the right article until I read that sentence... then I knew. Did no one read it and tell him how it came off? I'm sure (or at least I'm hoping I'm sure) he was referring to the sets by that opening sentence but THINK before you publish something.

I thought I had read somewhere it had been trimmed. Should have checked first. When I found out I was wrong I deleted my post.

As expected, Brantley is a massive Rave and love letter to Erivo. Also, extremely positive for Jennifer Hudson.

I think what impresses me the most about these reviews are some of the thoughtful insights and attention to detail that the critics offer in their analysis. I'm not sure we always get that, but perhaps it is the show, and this production in particular, that would not let them write in any other form.
