James Earl Jones is a big sellout who's sullied his reputation as a fine actor by shilling for a phone company. Like he needed the money.

Raithnait - like I said, it was just a special category for single performers - and Judy's appearances at The Palace are legendary.

But James Earl Jones is also the voice of CNN so it kind of evens out.
Now Lauren Bacall being spokeswoman for Fancy Feast and now Tuesday Morning....that's a different story.

I wish you hadn't phrased that in the form of a question, because now I'm forced to answer. No.

Besides many of those already listed, I wouldn't consider a list of 'greatest' complete if it didn't also include:
George M. Cohan
Ethel Barrymore
John Barrymore
Alfred Lunt
Lynn Fontanne
Helen Hayes
Mary Martin
Kim Stanley
Geraldine Page
... I give up. This could go on forever.
(and aren't we the lucky ones for it!)

again - (as usual) I'm replying late to an intersting thread - but, I can't stand Michael Crawford. Then again - I'm in a weird club here - I also do not understand why everyone loves Hunter Foster

I'm shocked it took 2 pages of posts for Ethel Merman to show up in this thread, but I guess that is just the way it goes. I'm even more shocked that Barbara Cook has yet to appear (unless I missed it). Maybe people only associate her with her concerts, but she has starred in numerous Broadway productions including The Music Man, Candide, and She Loves Me.
As for the men, I don't think Jerry Orbach or John Cullum have been mentioned yet. I'm not sure I would pick either as Greatest of All Time, but they are certainly as great as Michael Crawford and the like.

Pass it on - Take a kid to a show.
