I have not seen *nearly* enough performances to even attempt to make a list - though I imagine you can guess who I'd say...
But I'm not that big a fan of Michael Crawford either...

Of all time it has to be Julie Andrews because you just don't find talent like hers anymore. Brian Stokes Mitchell is my favorite male. His voice is so sexy.
I HATE Michael Crawford.

He is not a broadway performer, but he is the "King of Austrailian Musical Theatre." You know who I am about to say..............ANTHONY WARLOW. A Vocal God.

Personal taste aside - and truth be told, she doesn't quite 'ring my bell' - but it's hard to argue with the history and career scope of Ethel Merman. And I'm very willing to cede that the experience of her depended on seeing her live.
Also, I would add James Earl Jones, Alfred Lunt & Lynn Fontaine, Geraldine Page, Len Cariou, Shirley Booth, Rex Harrison, Richard Burton and Frank Langella to the serious lists already posted.
And just because, a short list of single performers who have left their mark: Judy Garland, Bette Midler, Lily Tomlin, Spalding Gray and John Leguizamo.

I didn't know we could count Judy Garland as a Broadway star, but if we can - she's on my list.

James Earl Jones' voice called my house to talk about how Verizon is a way better phone company than whatever one I have now.
