So aparently it had already been made into a moive and it's coming out later this year.
So says IMDB.not sure if this is true.

It opens in England in November and will likely hit US theaters around the same time.
I don't know this for a fact, but I'm guessing it's not a "movie" movie or anthing. It's basically just the play with cameras pointed at it. That's just a guess though.

A quick glance at IMDB's message boards (which are hardly reliable, but still), lead me to believe it IS a movie movie.
I'm so excited I could die.
apparently a still from the movie:

Nope, it's a real film. They found two adjacent empty schools in Northern England and filmed it there. In writing the screenplay, Alan Bennett did slight alterations to the script to shift the point of view of the story to be more from the boys' perspective, but otherwise it's the text of the play. Nick Hytner directed (as he did with Bennett's earlier "Madness of King George") and they used the entire original cast, which is currently on Broadway,

That promo photo has been used frequently as part of the marketing campaign for the stage version (though perhaps it'll be used for the film as well).
It wasn't filmed in Northern England, but North London. :) Alan Bennett also expanded the play to feature other teachers and the secretary talked about in the play (and seen in one of the videos). I'm very excited to see it, but I hope they adapted their performances as I fear that Sam Barnett's performance would look very mannered on a big screen.
There's a history boys website run by a girl in the UK that has information and some pictures about all the productions of it, including the film.

In the movie, each of the individual characters will be more in depth. For instance, it explains that Lockwood comes from a poor family, and that's why he wears tennis shoes instead of dress shoes. Stuff like that. Produced by Fox. Opens in Nov.
This is so exciting! I cannot wait to see it!
They test screened it in Manchester a few months ago now. I attended with four friends of which two of us and seen the play and the other two were big theatre fans (but in an annoying "we hate musicals and are pretensious drama students" kinda way)
Opinion was divided as to whether it was excellent or very good. Looking forward to seeing it later this year.
SOOO EXCITED FOR THIS!!! I will be there opening night in NYC!
WOO! I read about this after checking out HP:5. I can't wait. But, there's one question, are people outside theatre/broadway going to see this? I can't see it happening.

Are the stage and movie casts the same? or related?

if you had read the thread you would have seen the movie cast is the original stage cast which is currently on broadway.
on another note, Lockwood wears tennis shoes? I guess i missed that detail from the back frow of the mezzanine.
Fiction Writer, I've been thinking the same thing. There have been a couple of articles (one on Oscarwatch and another in a similar film-related publication) and they seem to be pushing it as a major Oscar contender, but I just don't see it happening. As much as I love the play, I've been toodling around on imdb's Oscar boards and there's no buzz on THB. Not that this necessarily means anything, but I don't it's as much a shoo-in for Oscar recognition as many of the Playbill-type articles seem to predict (ie Griffiths potentially making history winning a Tony/Oscar in the same season for the same role).
Regardless of how it does critically/at the box office, I can't wait to see it. Apparently it's been pushed back until late November for release (Fox Searchlight's keeping it as their main Oscar contender).
Does anyone know if it will be in wide release?

ZONEFACE - why so mean? I read the whole thread now and before. There's no explicit mention of cast. Seemed a fair question.
mabel - thanks! I was having trouble getting tix, so I'm excited I'll get to see the same group in the movie!
Yeah, Zoneace, Lockwood wears brown leather shoes in the play, and it looks like red Pumas in the film.
And according to IMDB's message boards (yeah, highly reliable, I know) it's got a US release date set for November 24 (I beleive that's the US release date, at least). And I'm assuming if it's going to get a sizable push from Fox Searchlight (as a couple of articles I've seen have mentioned) it should get wide release...I'd hope.
Edited, because I screwed up the pictures with Lockwood's shoes.
