Won the front row lottery for this last night. I? thought the show was really good overall. It was a bit predictable, but still was enjoyable.

This is one of the worst plays I have seen this season, I was expecting it to be somewhat thrilling since I enjoy House of Cards but it was pretty abysmal. The plot itself is similar to House of Cards (basically there is a DC power couple and a lot of schemes trading for favors) but this was mostly dead air. I looked at my watch 45 mins in and realized that nothing substantive happened. There is some ridiculous twist which perked up the audience but there wasn't much of a payoff. The set is fine but there are some strange transitions with these projections that I guess were to supposed to be newspaper headlines. I really expected a play about DC insider drama to have some kick but this had none. I was also confused because isn't this play supposed to be updated every week with new Trump tweets? There wasn't anything said  that seemed to have been added in although maybe it's a slow week since he's in Asia. There are many moments where she'll say something like, "who cares about the facts those don't matter anymore according to him" and the audience goes wild.

I was at the matinee yesterday in a great seat from TDF (orchestra center row N), and I found it to be decent overall, but nothing about this play really stands out. The cast is fine. Everyone is doing a good job, but no one is really giving a knockout performance. The set is very pretty. I don’t have much more to say about this one other than that it’s not much to write home about.

Saw it last night- was one of the worst shows I think I've seen. The dialogue was cringeworthy, the acting subpar, and the plot was enormously predictable.  I wanted my time back after exiting the theater.

I really did not care for this at all. The dialogue is unrealistic, and none of the actors sounded or acted like real human beings. Nobody has chemistry at all. The Trump stuff is overwhelming and eye-roll inducing. Nothing new is being said, and it's a lot of the same jokes that have been made since he became president. The major "twist" injected some life into the play a little too late but it feels forced. The plot is predictable, and I knew what the outcome would be from the first scene.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Playbill just posted clips- I chuckled, but admittedly it's 45 seconds of a 90 minute show

I saw this on Saturday night.  I gotta say that i was really disappointed, not only in the story (it didn't really get interesting until about 1/2 way through), but in the acting.  Thought everyone, other than Brown, was wooden and exaggerated.  Everyone was "ACTING" with overblown gestures.  I typically like Josh Lucas, but found his take on the character to be odd.  Was waiting for his character to make a big reveal before the end and ... nothin."  A major disappointment overall.

I'm finding this show fascinating - here we have an A-list film star making her Broadway debut in a play with what I would describe as a prestigious creative team/pedigree in a time where it has never been more relevant, but the reviews have been awful, the show seems largely ignored here and the sales are mediocre (not awful, but surely below expectations).

My take is that the show isn't what the star and creative team think it is (at least based off that recent radio interview with Uma). Through the show's marketing and Uma's description/commentary (such as wanting to take the show to DC to play to DC audiences) it honestly sounds like what they think they are in is a poignant, sharp political drama and carefully pointed satire directed towards the current political climate/administration. What it actually is in execution (in my opinion) is a light, accessible comedy/camp TV soap (the kind of thing that you don't take that seriously but have a good time watching), topped off with funny but absolutely predictable and "wink wink" cheap shots towards the presidency.

I honestly wonder if the show would be better received if creative team stopped taking themselves so seriously and emphasised the camp. I would love, for example, a playbill image that showed Uma sitting at the centre of their living room making a camp/powerful/manipulative/smirking face while having the men (and women) around her at their knees, kissing her hand, looking submissive etc. This is closer to the tone of the show than the current image, which makes it look like a serious drama.

When my goodbye post was removed: “but I had a great dramatic finish!!!!”

I won the today tix lotto for this show tonight, I thought it was supposed to be in the front row? My seats were in the dress circle, not bad seats by any means but not what I was expecting when I picked them up from the box office.

I'm glad I only spent the lotto price to see the show though. I didn't care for it at all.

There's nothing anywhere on TodayTix that indicates the lottery seats will be in the front row.  What did you see that led you to believe that?

I saw a few people on here say they got front row for it when they won and I could have sworn I saw it when I actually entered today...its not a big deal but I'm going to check tomorrow just to see if I was completely wrong lol

Unless a show (like BOM as an example) specifically states lottery winners will receive front row seats, seating locations for lotteries are almost always at the discretion of the box office. They look at what they have open 45-60 minutes before the show and plug people into empty seats. On certain nights, that may be in the front row, other nights it's elsewhere. A few lottery winners on your night may have even gotten front row but they couldn't do that for everyone. No way of knowing.

I believe TodayTix changed The Parisian Woman lottery recently. I won the lottery in December when the lottery tickets were $35 not $29 as they are priced currently. I looked back at my confirmation email and winner notification email and both specifically said that the lottery was for front row seats, which is what I got at the show. I entered again today and there is no longer any verbiage about the winning tickets being in the first row.

You are the first person I've come across who actually wanted to see the show a second time.

Thank you! I've been entering almost daily since it opened and that's probably why I thought it was supposed to be front row. I checked my past emails from entering and they do say front row seats like you said. Like I said before it's really not a big deal, I was glad I got to pay a cheap price to see the show, it was more I just could have sworn I had read it was front row and wanted to see if I was just losing my mind lol

LOL!  Should have clarified...I entered it again just to see if the confirmation email mentions first row or not!  Not planning to see it again...will decline if by some chance I do win the lottery (great thing about the TodayTix lotteries!) so someone else can see it and judge the show for themselves.  Personally I thought it was ok, but yes, don’t need to see it again!

I realize I'm very late to the party here, but I just saw the show today on a whim, and honestly I didn't think it was nearly as bad I expected based the word of mouth. In fact I was pretty consistently engaged. I found it to be an interesting look into the life of a liberal making due, and finding her place, in a Republican social circle. The interweaving of themes - politics, gender, age, sex, marriage, ambition - while certainly not all that original, added up to a unique take on our current climate that made the play feel worthwhile. Many of the jokes did feel forced, but there were also some genuine laughs to be found.

I absolutely think my experience was heightened by the extremely low bar I set for the show - I won't deny that. And sure it's far from perfect, and not remotely life-changing. But I just wanted to chime in with my perspective to balance out the thread just a little bit.

Also, for what it's worth, the audience today was very engaged. There were lots of laughs, and in the climactic scene between Thurman and Brown, the audience gasped and "ooh"ed and even applauded at the end. They then promptly and eagerly gave the show a standing ovation (which I know means nothing these days, but you can sort of get sense for how much they really mean it by how quickly they get up). I would describe my experience as "engaged and pleasantly surprised," but I actually think the majority of today's audience genuinely really enjoyed it.
