Going into the soon-to-be-empty Broadhurst?
TIME STANDS STILL, which yesterday received a Tony nomination for Best Play, will transfer this fall to Broadway to a Shubert theatre to be announced. The play, by Pulitzer Prize Winner Donald Margulies, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan, will star acclaimed original cast members: Laura Linney, Brian D'Arcy James, and Eric Bogosian.
TIME STANDS STILL, which enjoyed an extended sold-out run at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre this spring, will resume performances Thursday, September 23, 2010. Tickets for the production will go on sale Monday, May 31, 2010. The production will be on hiatus until the fall to accommodate Linney's commitment to her new Showtime series "The Big C" which is now in production and will premiere Monday, August 16, 2010.
Transferring with the production will be original cast members: Laura Linney, Brian D'Arcy James, and Eric Bogosian.

I'm glad because this is one that I didn't see. Was always GOING to see it and then something else came up. Hope it will be a nice way to start next season.
Good to hear. I'll definitely be going back in the fall.
Does anyone want to toss around casting ideas for the role of Mandy?

Too bad Silverstone won't be joining them. One of the best performances of the season, in my opinion.
^Agreed. Looking forward to seeing it again.
This certainly explains why Brian D'Arcy James' engagement in next to normal is "limited."
I missed it when it was at MTC, so I'm glad I'll have another chance to see it. The timing of this announcement, however, is suspicious. I think we all remember when The Pajama Game announced a commercial run for the fall right after it was nominated for all those Tonys.
I'll believe it when I see it.

now for next season would it be eligible for tony's? like revival or something like that? don't know exactly how that would work.

Vespertine1228, my thoughts exactly on the timing. The article calls it a "hiatus" but it was never mentioned that the show was going on "hiatus" before now? I smell a rat.

PJ Game also didn't have the two leads behind it.

^ As much as I may love Brian, he's hardly a "name" outside of Broadway circles, so I don't see him being a big ticket draw for your standard tourist.
I still think it smells fishy. Why was the word "hiatus" never mentioned when it closed? Everything said "closing", not "the show will go on a hiatus to allow Linney to film blah blah blah". I suspect had there been no nominations we would never have heard of this alleged "hiatus".
If they think they can turn a profit, more power to them. But the whole thing seems way too suspicious to me.
And I thought it was rumored that it would be going to the Cort Theater?
This may have been the plan the whole time, but I bet they just weren't going to announce it until they were sure they had Tony noms, and its partially a ploy to get people to vote for them who wouldn't if it were closed. And I'm sure if they aren't super successful at the Tonys it may get canceled. Referring to it as a hiatus does seem really wrong to me, because it's moving from nonprofit to commercial, so it should only really be referred to as a transfer. But good for them, I hope they're successful, I've heard lots of great things!

"And I thought it was rumored that it would be going to the Cort Theater?"
I was going to say, hasn't that rumor been going around since March/April? I agree with the idea it was in the plans all along (or at least very early on when they got the critical/audience response that they did), but they wanted to see how award season turned out to officially say or do anything about it.
Also, according to some of the articles on 'The Big C', it is filming now or soon (" THE BIG C will begin shooting 13 episodes later this spring for a fall 2010 debut,"), so that part is true. I'd imagine they didn't say this earlier on to draw audiences to see the show then as opposed to putting it off.
I think the Cort is a very good choice for this show. No matter where you sit, the view/experience is very intimate. I've been in the balcony for the last two shows I've seen there and could read facial expressions clear as day.
I don't get why this is a surprise to so many. It has been all over the internet for months.
jeffmiele- This would not be eligible for any Tonys as it is not a revival. A revival has to be 3 years after a show closes to be considered for any Tony awards.

Who said anything about being surprised...?
rocks- people saying how the term "hiatus" is fishy. How they are just trying to get the Tony now. Comparing it to Pajama Game.
No, the Tony nomination is probably what finalized the re-opening.
If it doesn't win Best Play, do we think it'll still re-open? I would be very happy if it still did regardless of the Tony since I didn't get a chance to see it the first time around, but is it possible they're banking on winning the Tony to generate buzz?
I'd imagine it still would... It did very well the first time around, and I imagine it would again.

Sorry, but no article I read about the show said that they were going to reopen when Linney was done filming. The first time I've seen or heard that the show wasn't closed but "on hiatus" was the announcement today. And yes it reeks of a stunt to try and pull more votes in.
i'm glad it'll be back because i missed it at MTC
