Harvey HAS to be Edna. I love Robin Williams, but Harvey DEFINES the role. It's a legendary performance, he HAS to be Edna for the movie.

And I want Marissa back too!

You know, I always thought Robin Williams would make a wonderful Edna. However I think Harvey should be in the movie. I also agree with Queen Latifah as Motormouth. I think Amber is too small of a part for Jessica though. I wouldnt have any problem with Marrissa as Tracy, but I think it would be kinda cool to have someone brand new play her part. You know, like having a star born :) I could also see Susan playing Velma, but I dont think she would ever do it. Linda Hart was great when I saw her, so Id have to say her.

Like someone said, I could live without Marissa in it(although I would love to see her in it), but Harvey needs to be Edna. There have been a few very good replacements for Tracy, but no one even compairs to Harvey as Edna.

Seaweed: Usher

I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

We all know that part will go to Fat Joe.

I love laura bell bundy...in a perfect world she'd be amber von tussle.

but she probably won't be since her name isn't big enough and she's already working on some things... so...

I think Harvey should be Edna. I donno who'd play Dick LaTessa's role. I second Queen latifah, too. I can't imagine any of the other parts, though.

re: TIME TO CAST HAIRSPRAY MOVIE!!!!...

queen latifah seems to come to mind when imagining motormouth being performed by someone famous... i don't know... she would be amazing in the role, but i think i'd like to see someone else... not sure who though

if usher was in the movie, i would NOT GO SEE IT AT ALL

same with justin... but not as against it cuz all the hype over him has died down a little

i still think john goodman should be edna if harvey can't

re: TIME TO CAST HAIRSPRAY MOVIE!!!!...

I think that Usher and Justin Timberlake are a good idea, because they'll bring in crowds, and more people will come to see the show. Seaweed will be a breeze for Usher, and Link won't be a challenge for Justin at all. I like the Jessica Simpson as Amber idea, though, and I LOVE Queen Latifah for Motormouth.

I think that Bette Middler should do what Jackie Hoffman does in the show, popping in randomly at certain parts, just on film. re: TIME TO CAST HAIRSPRAY MOVIE!!!!...

I like the idea of Susan Sarandon for Velma, although Catherine Zeta Jones would also be quite good. I think John Travolta would make an awesome Corny Collins as well.

I agree with Bette - and know the Shaiman/Midler connection, I hope it happens!!

To tell you the truth Usher COULD pull off Seaweed. He has the vocal chops, the suave manner and he can dance circles around most pop stars, including the female ones. Link however should go to an unknown...hah...no alterier motive there... re: TIME TO CAST HAIRSPRAY MOVIE!!!!...

hahaha now it just feels like we're all type casting :P

how about people we wouldn't think of playing these roles but would be able to pull it off nicely?

re: TIME TO CAST HAIRSPRAY MOVIE!!!!...

Personally, I think they should cast an unknown in the role of Tracy.....like me!

There's so few roles for the, eh-hem, chunkier girls, why shouldn't another girl get it?

As for Edna, they have to keep Harvey. No ifs, ands, or buts.

I also see whoever gets Penny being a breakout star in this movie. I wanna see some talented, young, undiscovered commedienne in this role that will knock my socks off. Oh and just a bit of trivia, did people know that the singer Vitamin C played Amber in the original movie...ha, just thought I'd throw that in.
