re: TIME TO CAST HAIRSPRAY MOVIE!!!!...

"Kristin Chenoweth as Amber"

Why not Carol Channing? They're both around the same age.

No need to get snippy (BTW..I'm a big fan of your icon), just suggesting, that KC has the correct personality to pull off a character like Amber and lets not forget, Marissa is no kid either!

If Kristin was Amber, Carol could be Velma. Of course, if Kristin were Amber, Tracy would have to be played by Roseanne. And Penny would have to be played by Jackie Hoffman.

If Jennifer Collidge isn't available what about Jane Krakowsi as Velma? I know she is young, but she has the sexpot thing, we KNOW she can sing and being a sweet young thing sort of works for the character.

Roseanne as Tracy
Laurie Metcalf as Penny
John Goodman as Link

Jeez...snippy snippy around here. At least I didn't suggest that Idina Menzel play Tracy, Penny, Velma, Edna, Amber, Motormouth, Little Inez and ALL the Dynamites. I'm sure someone else will find a way to plug her into this soon though.

Kristin does not look 17. She just doesn't. She's cute as a button and breaks character every 15 seconds to give the tweens something to giggle about while they sip their milk out of their Strawberry Shortcake thermos at lunch, but I'd have a better chance at pulling off a 17 year old girl than she would.

Star Jones as Lil' Inez would work better.

Hah...BG2

Thanks for the plug. If I can't be Link then I at least want Sketch or Fender.

You know Ossie wouldn't do it unless Ruby Dee could play Motormouth.

Matt_G done.

And BroadwayGuy2 - how shocking for you to throw your usual/typical/cliche-like stalker lust into a thread

I'm sure I'll probably take a LOT of heat for this...but can anyone else see Sharon Osbourne as Velma? If she looked right for the part, Kelly Osbourne certainly behaves like Amber...hehe...that would be funny. OK, I'm done...go ahead..pick this apart.....

Neither can many of the choices people have listed here. We're offering suggestions, we are not the official casting directors. And as far as not being able to sing, well, first of all, I don't think Velma HAS to be a magnificent singer and secondly they did enough dubbing of movie musicals in the past, they can continue now. And YES I KNOW...we want to get away from dubbing, I'm simply saying that if Hollywood wants someone badly enough, they'll do what they have to in order to get that person on film.

I actually think I love the idea of Jessica Simpson - I mean, what other blonde do we love to hate right now...

Jennifer Coolidge is another great suggestion.

I'd love to see Harvey and Marissa retain their roles. Seaweed, Penny and Link could be any number of people.

Penny has to turn into a semi-goddess at the end and I don't think Heather Matarazo could pull that off AT ALL. I actually love the idea of Goldie playing Velma!

No Marissa, that's the only thing I would say. Don't care for her, get someone else. It's a rather unpopular opinion, I know, but I don't care for her.
