Hi again y'all!
As I shared in my trip thread, a friend of mine and I have some TKTS gift certificates to burn and we're planning on hitting up TKTS in Times Square on Thursday 1/5 and Friday 1/6.
On Thursday, we're going to be arriving to the play only line around 5ish (seeing Phantom matinee beforehand in cheap seats) to try and get tickets for The Front Page, The Humans or Jitney. What are our chances of getting decent seats that late and how long does the play only line usually take compared to the main line?
On Friday, with our stubs from the day before in hand, we want to be first in line in the 7 day express line or close to it to try for Waitress, Falsettos or The Color Purple. What time would we have to get there in order to be front of the line and how express is the "express line?"
Not debating shows here...just looking for some TKTS advice from you Broadway veterans. Thanks so much in advance!

I only did TKTS once. I went on Christmas Day. About 5pm I got on line-and it was about 10 minutes till I got to the front. And was able to get Color Purple which is what I wanted.
I'm thinking maybe Christmas Day wasn't a very popular day for TKTS and also everyone who was on line in front of me seemed to be getting for the Rockettes.

The play only line can be amazing. I went on Monday to get tickets for The Front Page. The regular line had hundreds of people and was moving at a crawl. I got on the play only line, was the fifth person in line, and was in and out in under 10 minutes.

Sounds great! I just think our only issue with arriving at the play line later in the day will be finding two seats together but that's why we have backups. So thankful for so many great plays this season.
Hope it's a similar situation for the express line on Friday.

Well, the closer you get to showtime, you may also get better seats than if you were there earlier, since the box office may release some closer/previously premium tickets later in the day. There's no telling, really, but later in the day doesn't necessarily mean worse seats by any means.
