I didn't know tkts had an online discount. I thought it was only at the booths. But I don't think you really get to choose your seats there either.

Heres the link: http://www.entertainment-link.com/broadway/discounts/shows.asp
Even if you don't get to choose, do sell good seats? or just the crummy ones that the theater didn't sell?

Oh, that's not tkts. That's entertainment link. Tkts is two booths you go to in person that are run by TDF.
I've never used entertainment link as I live here. But with those things you usually don't get to pick your seat. I have no clue where they are.
Here's the link to their FAQ though...I think that answers your questions... http://www.entertainment-link.com/ticket_faq.asp
But while it talks about the tkts booths, a) they have the info on the one in Times Square as still the old location, and b) you cannot but the tkts ones online.

oh, I see. I got to that page from a TKTS page so I figured it was still TKTS.
Do you need to be a member to buy tickets at the booths?

Posted: 6/1/08 at 4:03pmAt tkts? No. You just have to have cash or travelers checks.

Posted: 6/1/08 at 4:12pmis there any way to know which shows will be sold on what day?
#7re: TKTS question
Posted: 6/1/08 at 4:14pm
Nope. It's day to day whatever is released to them. It's a pretty safe bet that Wicked and Jersey Boys will not be on there ever (at least for the foreseeable future). Other shows...it just depends.

Posted: 6/1/08 at 4:14pmYou can get an idea of general trends from the entertainment-link website, but you can't know definitively until the board goes up the day of.
#9re: TKTS question
Posted: 6/1/08 at 4:15pmso it is basically just tickets that the theater hasn't sold?
#10re: TKTS question
Posted: 6/1/08 at 4:16pmYes. But occasionally that may include premium seats. But you don't get to pick where you sit from my experience. You tell them what show and they print out the tickets.

oh I get it.
Well, since I will be going on a trip on a very tight schedule, I guess I will just have to buy regular priced tickets ahead of time

There are discount sites around ~ broadwaybox.com, theatermania.com...even playbill.com has a discount "club" that's free to join. There are usually discounts for a lot of the shows up there.
But yes, the tkts booth does require time to wait in line, so if every moment is scheduled, it's not the way to go.

Posted: 6/1/08 at 4:41pmI usually get my discount tickets on theatermania.com. You can pick your seats on there. In my experience with TKTS, they tell you where the seats are and I had obstructed view for Evita but they warned me first and I think the price was even a bit less. If you are on a tight schedule, why not go to a discount site and buy them and have them hold them at Will Call. That will free up some of your time.

theatermania.com, playbill.com, broadwaybox.com All good, with great discounts for most shows. (No WICKED, JERSEY BOYS, or LION KING)
You can pick your seats...I use them all of the time.
Enjoy your trip.
Another trick (but no guarantees of shows or seats) is to go to TKTS less than half hour before curtain...usually no line and sometimes last minute seats are rushed down there...SOMETIMES. It's a risk, but I've gotten great seats on occasion.

Posted: 6/1/08 at 4:52pmYeah. The sites I mentioned are codes you enter. You can pick to a degree...unless it's Roundabout then you can see what is available and select your exact seat rather than playing the "click to see what else is available" game you have to with ticketmaster or telecharge.

I always get the same seat with ticketmaster whenever I play the "click to see what else is available" game. hahaha
I much prefer telecharge. Fortunately, only a few shows use ticketmaster!
I wish they all did what Roundabout does!

Posted: 6/1/08 at 5:03pmOh I know. That would be amazing!! The Ricardo Montalban Theater in Los Angeles does the same thing. It's how I picked 2nd row center for Tommy when I see that later this month. :)
