I did not find another thread on this.. so forgive me if it has already been mentioned. Ebert and Ropert loved the movie and gave it two thumbs up.

Good! I'm happy.
I can't wait. Still getting over no "King of Broadway" - but I'll live.
Was it on today? Geez I missed it. But that is very good news!
Why did we get two thumbs up for The Producers so early and had to wait so long when they reviewed RENT? I'm happy about it but still, just curious.
Hmm.. I thought they also gave Rent a early review. But I might be wrong. Alot of it has to do with when the studios make the films available to be reviewed.
But anyway.. they both really loved the movie. They loved that it was basically the broadway musical put on film.

"They loved that it was basically the broadway musical put on film."
Then I'll love it.
What did they give RENT? j/w...
I really hope this movie does well!
they gave it two thumbs up with Ebert being more critical but appreciating what Chris did.
If you missed the television show you can listen to the podcast and hear the review.

Thanks for posting that! I missed the show and didn't know I'd be able to catch it. Thanks again!
Thanks for the Link. Sam rubin.. one of our local reviewers also just gave Producers a rave.
Also BSoBW2;
Ebert gave Rent a mild thumbs up when he reviewed it on his broadcast and later decided he didn't care for it. You can read it on his website.
I'm not sure that it's entirely accurate to say that "later decided he didn't care for it". I think that it was more like he decided that it might not work for audiences that had not seen the musical. He had said that he liked it based seeing the show.
He originally gave it three stars in his review in the newspaper and on the web but decided later to change that to two and a half stars:
"Note: I gave the movie a "marginal thumbs up" on "Ebert & Roeper" because I felt people might want to see it based on what was good in it, but I am fine-tuning that to a **1/2 rating because, on the whole, I don't think the movie really works on its own, without reference to the theatrical version."
Ebert's RENT Review
Yes. But he was also on the "Tonight Show" saying why he didn't care for the movie. but in any event...
Back to the Producers.. Which did get two solid thumbs up.
Here is another link to the Producers review. For some reason the above link isn't working for me.
Ebert
Did anybody watch "Inside the Actor's Studio" last night. It was OK. It kind of turned into the Nathan Lane show. But, boy, did he go right for the heart when he asked Susan about what happened in December during rehearsals of The Producers. (Her husband died). I almost lost it.
I watched it and liked it. You know .. those things take like 8 hours to tape and then they edit it down to one hour. I bet you Stroman and Broderick were just not as entertaining and the editor just dealt with what he had.
So far, the movie's been getting split reviews. Those that love it, love it. Those that hate it, despise it. I wonder how it will turn out.
broadway86,
Can you post some links to those negative reviews? I want to read them. Thank you.
uncageg, here is a thread about "Inside the Actor's Studio" and the appearance of Susan, Nathan and Matthew:

Dame, here is one:
'Producers' loses sizzle in third incarnation
I think they are also both on Letterman next week.
Pab,
lot of the things this critic didn't like about the film is precisely what I liked. But there is one thing I vehemently disagree with. I thought Uma Thurman was just fine and definitely the weakest link. I really enjoyed this film. I hope it does well.
I'm looking forward to seeing it. I expect that people will nit pick this film to death. I've never seen such an attempt by so many people (especially people on this board) to just look for things to dislike or question. It happened with RENT and I expect that will also happen with The Producers.
A lot of critics are complaining about the over-the-topness. But, I have to say, that's what I'm looking forward to. I simply cannot wait to see this movie.

Jon Lovitz is in this!?
Oh lord I need to see it ASAP!
Pab,
I agree with you 100 %. Let's just hope they actually see the movie before they start in on it. Have you seen the Kong threads lately? So many people talking about something they have not seen.
