Apparently Stritch said there is talk of a Encores! to Broadway transfer before she performed "A Parade in Town" tonight. If it is going to happen, I hope it's Roundabout that's wanting to do it. Also, don't Foster and Esparza have conflicts? We shall see...

I would be soo happy if Whistle did transfer! I really loved that show and would def catch it a few more times!

Right now Foster just has a few concerts planned here and there, basically just once or twice a month. Nothing that can't be worked around.

I hope we will find out soon!

Yup.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I thought Donna Murphy wasn't interested in doing revivals. I highly doubt this would ever come to happen. There's always "talk" of Encores! shows transferring and they so rarely do (though FINIAN'S actually worked out).

Pls whoever is raising the capital spend the money on a cast recording instead :p!

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I second the request for a recording of this cast.

A cast recording of the Encores production would make a lot more money than a full transfer.

And please, never let Roundabout near a musical ever again. After Bye, Bye Birdie they ought to be banned.

Sutton did the recent reading of Leap of Faith, but there hasn't been any official word that she is staying with it. All of the press releases have said that no casting is confirmed, actually. But Raul is definitely doing it. Don't know about Sutton.

I've only heard that there might be a recording, which would be fantastic. Nothing about a transfer... which as much as I adored the show, I'm not sure I would want see without this cast. Or at least Donna and Raul.

I mean, if Donna Murphy is offered the chance to play Cora on Broadway -- I think she's gonna take it. You don't just say "no, I'm not interested in revivals" to that.

She might if she felt that a commercial run of the show would fail.

I'd adore a recording too and agree that it'd be wiser than a full production.

But as brilliant as Murphy was as Cora, you're gonna lose some of that on disc. Her physical gags were hysterical. I can't remember laughing so much in the theatre as I did during "I've Got You to Lean On".

Well, apparently that's what she did when she was offered to play Phyllis in FOLLIES and Reno Sweeney in ANYTHING GOES both of which are better musicals.
A recording would be great, that'd definitely get me excited enough, though really the idea of seeing Murphy doing "Me and My Town" and "A Parade in Town" live sounds so exquisite, just from clips seeing clips of her rendition of "A Parade in Town," it seems like she was fantastic.
Emcee, after hearing Raul's "Everybody Says Don't" and "With So Little to Be Sure Of" I'm not sure I'd like to see anyone in the role either, hence why a recording would be great.

A recording with the Encores! cast would be phenomenal. I don't see how a transfer would work out given the absurd nature of the show, but we'll see. I'm just happy I got to see it at City Center and would be content with a recording.

Ray - two of the most gorgeous things I've ever heard him sing. Especially Everybody Says Don't. That song sounds like it was written for him. He's been singing better than ever lately, though, imo.

I would think (hope) Encores! might be a little transfer-cautious after the 'Finian's Rainbow' debacle. And 'Gypsy' wasn't even that successful other than Patti Lupone's performance (and the tickets it sold). I think Encores! is trying too hard to find another 'Chicago'. Most of their productions are well-received...that alone has not proved to be enough for a worthwhile transfer.

Anyone Can Whistle was such a triumph for Encores! It was them doing what they do best and all 3 stars gave knock em in the aisle performances, but it's just not meant for an open ended run. It deserved this Encores production and all the praise it received but it's just not meant for transfer.

I think, like others have said, it should be preserved on a cast recording. A complete, high-quality recording of the score (which is really the only show should not be left to be forgotten, it's really a fantastic score) with such a perfect cast would be amazing.

Whattt?

The Tickets it sold (or lackthereof) was one of the least successful things of the production. The production itself, and many more of the performances (especially Benanti's) were considered successful.

Oh, what show isn't transferring? What show isn't Broadway bound? It is to laugh.
