Tarzan Cast Recording....

Posted: 6/27/06 at 10:01pmSo I picked up the cast recording of Tarzan today and found that I enjoyed listening to it alot more than I enjoyed seeing it on stage. I guess when I don't have to look at what a mess they were making on the stage I could enjoy the music... (with the exception of Josh S... he's always fine to look at!) I would like to point out though that the actual CD is an even more hideous shade of green then the actual set, which I didn't think was possible!

i was at best buy today and i couldn't find it...i don't know why i was looking for it, I bought it on iTunes.
Is this honestly the first thread for this recording? I guess not many people are excited about a recording of a show that got such bad reception.
i've really enjoyed it...now if i can only get it onto my iPod--darn you, iTunes.

Posted: 6/27/06 at 10:35pmI went to my local Wal-Mart, who didn't have it. I wasn't about to go cast recording hunting, so I figured I'll pick it up when I see it.

Posted: 6/27/06 at 10:46pmI'm sure the 2 music stores around me have it... for $20. I'll wait until Wal-Mart has it, or I'm around a Best Buy. It'll be much cheaper there.

Posted: 6/27/06 at 11:56pmNot sure if I want to get this or not. I really hated the Phil Collins score from the movie, so I'm not sure how I'd feel about MORE of the same. However, if he's not singing them, maybe they'll be better.

Maybe it's just the Circuit City in my area, but I don't recommend them for cast recordings. One time I went the day a cast recording came out, and they couldn't even find it in their system. Best Buy is usually better about having cast recordings the day they come out, although you'll spend a couple of dollars more, perhaps, than at Circuit City.
I had a problem finding the DRS CD when it came out; Best Buy didn't even have it. I ended up paying almost $20 for the CD. Like the CD, but I don't think $20 is worth it especially when you can get a copy for $5 cheaper.

Maybe, but Disney is really plugging this cast recording unlike any other Broadway show in recent memory. TV spots, interviews, billboards, everything - just for the CD.
They're really pushing this one.

Posted: 6/28/06 at 12:22amI'd say Beauty and the Beast has a better score, a more listenable score. And Tarzan is by far a better score than Lion King.

I'm in the tri-state area...haven't seen anything about this.

Posted: 6/28/06 at 12:25amFor me... it's like the Wedding Singer... and unattractive show to the eye... but after you listen to the recording, you can't press the stop button. Plus I really enjoy Merle Dandridge, and Strickland doesn't bother me one bit, vocally a captivating performance... I only am questioning Shuler Hensley, his songs were so.."so what" sounding.

I think his part is kinda "so what."
Wedding Singer is kind of suppose to be tacky. It's the 80s.

Posted: 6/28/06 at 1:19amCircuit City by me never has cast recordings when they come out. Best Buy usually does, but they failed to have Drowsy and Wedding Singer earlier this month, and didn't have Tarzan either. I ended up buying it at Barnes and Noble for $16.99 minues the membership 10% discount.

While I'm not planning on seeing the show (I have a feeling I'd just be really frustrated with the way it was tackled; could have been extraordinary), I bought the recording and have really enjoyed it. I always liked most of the original songs from the film and was pleasantly surprised by the new additions. It's a nice listen.

I think it goes without saying that Beauty and the Beast has a better score. It's hard to beat the brilliant talents of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.

It's on itunes and I LOVE it, although I wish they used Daniel Manche instead of Alex Rutherford on the big songs. And I think Josh sounds kind of like a girl while singing but still very enjoyable and lovely, and Jenn has a gorgeous voice. The orchestrations on this are awseome. Shuler Henlsey has a wierd sound in No Other Way.
My favorite are Who Better Than Me, Different, Waiting for This Moment, and Trashin the Camp.

Picked it up too. It's great to actually hear the percussion at a lower level. The sound isn't distorted in the theatre, it's just not really easy to listen too because the volume is cranked. The bonus track is nice. It's cool to hear the films songs presented differently and the new Phil Collins track. The new songs are garbage as is the show.
I was really disappointed that they left out the song from Tarzan II "Who am I?" It is really great and works better than that one Young Tarzan currently sings.
I loved the movie and loved the songs as presented in the movie. I think the big problem with Phil Collins music is that it is an offbeat style that is syncopated and basically percussion based. Worlds away from what they are trying to do on stage.
I am now eagerly awaiting Lestat. I got some songs off Youtube from the show that I like from it. "Before my Eyes" is my favorite, I only wish I could go in and take out some of the runs. I hope Bernie Taupin keeps trying, Lestat is a good exercise, he just needs to learn some more about writing for the stage.
