HAHAHAHA Taye Diggs Idina Menzel! YES!
"HE'S HOT!! lol! All my friends who love him thought i was lucky to get to hug his wife so they were all over the jacket I wore"
This post disturbs me...
What an interesting thread. Unfortunately, the things I have been hearing are untrue. He does not play all the same roles. He is offered similiar roles, yes, but unless you have seen every single one of his movies, you cannot say he plays the roles the same. Example: Malibu's Most Wanted. Granted, that was a terrible film, and Taye regrets making it, you still see a side of Taye that you wouldn't normally see in films such as The Wood or Brown Sugar (which I thought he was really good in.) Also, a lot of people fail to realise that it doesn't matter how good you are as an actor, if you are black, your roles are limited. The thing that makes Taye a great versatile actorr is that he breaks away from the stereotype. He doesn't do gangsta films, yet, instead, does films that represent the black community in a positive perspective 9with the exception of Malibu's Most Wanted). And are we forgetting that he was in House on Haunted Hill - which if you buy the dvd, see the edited scenes, and watch the commentary, it makes the movie so much better than it actually is. Also, keep in mind that Taye does other things , like a new dance company that he just started. He's a wonderfully talented working actor, who is not underated, but exactly where he should be. Sooner or later, a part in a Broadway show will be written just for him, I'm sure.
Taye is a wonderful actor & singer...
and he's not bad to look at either.
I'm looking forward to seeing him in RENT :The Movie.
Let's be real here: how many Oscar/Tony worthy roles have been written for AAs (African Americans) and offered to Taye Diggs?
True, he's a beautiful and talented young man, but the truth of the matter is that the award winning roles aren't written for or offered to AA actors.
Would love to hear another opinion though.
Just saw Don Cheadle in Hotel Rwanda. If that does not get him an Oscar nod, then there is no hope for the black community.
Justice - yeah, i've heard good things about "Hotel Rwanda" - can't wait to see it. It's also a movie about race relations, so they had to cast black talent.
IMHO, Taye isn't nearly as versatile/talented an actor as Don Cheadle. Don would walk away with an Oscar/Tony before Taye would.

SInce no one has mentioned it, did anyone see Taye in Wicked???
I saw him 3 times and he was amazing. He deserves to headline a new show and have a good leading role on Broadway. I think he should do more Broadway and not movies for a while. He is not going anywhere fast with the films and he is astounding on broadway.
Anybody else see him in Wicked???
As far as the black actors issue goes...Taye is not nearly the first person directors/casting agents would call for a role for and African-American that is Oscar worthy. He'd be a long way down the list wayyy after Denzel, Will, and now Jamie Foxx and Mos Def. He needs to start trying to produce and work more behind the scenes if he wants the great roles. Kevin Hill seems like a recycled version of Ally Mcbeal with a diffrent edge. I don't see it lasting long...I hope he does well in the Rent movie
Give the man a chance, just bacause he hasn't had the verstile roles yet does not mean he can't play them. There is plenty of time for him to do that. Will Smith & Jamie Foxx were both in dumb ass television shows before they hit it "big" .And just becaue you're
considered "big" does not mean you're good. There is a lot of crap out there that makes a lot of money.
The problem could also be what he considers "great material." He has said in many interviews that he decided to do Kevin Hill because he thinks its great material, which is also why he has a hand in producing the show.
That Idina is one lucky lady. I have enjoyed him in everything I have seen him in. He is one of the most beautiful males I have ever seen. He could have absolutely no talent and I would watch him.
The production co for Kevin Hill is a co prod with Mel Gibsons Icon & a Disney Division. Telefilm Canada also gives $$ based on the fact that Crew & such are Canadian plus there are tax credits from the Feds the Province & even the city if u shoot here. BUT the funding (think subsidies) decreases the longer the show is on till after the 3rd season its negligible. Until the $ runs out the show will cont.
