Seriously not sure where this goes - it's about Bway, but it's not about a show.....
Anyway, this is for Taye Diggs, the man behind the green girl. He is such a versatile actor, it's hard to believe he hasn't yet garnered a Tony or Oscar. I thought we should spend more time talking about this TV/Hollywood/Broadway actor...

This is not to dismiss him in any way, but he's only originated two roles on broadway, and while he's been in roughly two dozen films, most of them were...well...unremarkable.So it's not so hard for me to believe he hasn't won a Tony or Oscar yet.
That being said, I do think he's talented(and certainly VERY attractive),and the odds look good for him to be an award winner someday.
I agree Mr. Diggs has talent but he hasn't really given himself much of a chance for a Tony or Oscar.
His only original Broadway role was in "Rent" and he was snubbed, mostly because other members in that cast had showier roles. If he wants a Tony, maybe he should originate a role in a Broadway show (he'd be great in the long anticipated Dreamgirls revival. He'd also be great in "Golden Boy" which he dropped out of at Encores a few years ago)
As for his Oscar nomination, perhaps "How Stella Got her Groove Back" and "House on Haunted Hill" don't really scream Oscar Nom. Choice in roles is probably his main folly...
He's great on "Kevin Hill", but UPN doesn't tend to ever interest the Emmy voters. Maybe a Golden Globe, they're less picky. Kidding...I love Taye Diggs, would just like to see him in more serious or interesting material.

He actually did originate another role on Broadway...in the revival of Carousel,he's credited as 'policeman'.
I doubt that the producers of Carousel submitted Mr. Digg's name at Tony Nomination time.
I don't think he's that talented and the problem has only been exacerbated by his choice of roles. Did anybody see him in Brown Sugar? To me, he always seems like he's pretty much Taye Diggs in every role. "Kevin Hill" isn't that original or interesting even though it's gotten a lot of great ratings. Taye's best bet at winning any award would probably be a Tony, but I can think of dozens of people that should get a Tony, Em, and Oscar long before him.
I just meant that I am suprised he hasn't done a role worthy of a Tony - it seems weird to me. Like he's holding back or something. Maybe the Rent movie will win him something - though I highly doubt it.
Yes, he is indeed.

lover, thanks from brightening my day with this...mm...
Let's hope that he gets an Emmy nom for Kevin Hill this year. YAY! I finally get to watch the whole episodes now! Activities Board is finished for the semester!
He's definitely a really talented guy, but as already stated, I think he needs roles that allow him to flex his muscles more. His acting muscles, that is, lol.

hey thetruth,
I agree Taye seems to play the same roles, but being a character actor doesn't necessarily make you bad or untalented-look at Austin Pendleton, Oliver Platt ,John Lithgow,or even Joel Grey(jesus, did I spell that right?).
You play to your strengths....
i really like him on kevin hill but i have a feeling it will just end up being cancelled.
You're seriously surprised he has not won an Oscar? LMAO!!! LOL!!! That is rediculous!! Do you know what the Oscars are? He was in How Sella Got Her Groove Back for cryin out loud. See, this is when I think of people that don't know the difference between the Broadway world and the normal world!!
How does one "originate" a role in a role in a re-mounting of Carousel?
Original is when NO ONE has ever done it before
ghostlight, I agree that being a character actor isn't a bad thing if you actually play the role. He just doesn't do it for me and I've seen most of his movies/TV shows. The best role I saw him in was the movie The Best Man and I think that had to do more with me liking the movie than him.

thetruth,
I do agree with you-I don't really sense any there there. But maybe he'll get better advice, make some better choices...stranger things have happened....and while I wish the Tonys & the Oscars were about being the best,we all know they're a popularity contest.
theatrediva, sorry I misspoke-english is such an imprecise language-what I meant to say was Taye was an "original" cast member in the revival of Carousel, and as such, would have been eligible for a Tony had the role been of any importance. If Taye had left the show, the person who stepped into his role is designated a "replacement".All better now?
Ghostlight, lemme guess -- your space bar is in pristine condition.

The show is a kinda funding boondoggle that is too hard to explain. It will run 3 seasons & when the funding goes -so will Kevin Hill. But yes he is Purty!
