You can't forget that Idina was a "sacred original." Maybe the success of this show is all thanks to "rabid RENTHEADS!"
My favorite line is...
"You can also tell that this guy has had some major dance training, he moves with such ease and grace that I was in awe that this guy is only an understudy"
Can you possibly be any more obvious?!?!

Do we have to dissect every one of his previous messages? If he's a shill for the understandy, so what??? If he is just gaga over him, so what???
Did Taye Diggs give the performance indicated in the original message? Was he prepared enough to go on? That's what I would like to know.

According to other reviews I've read from his opening night, he was prepared and good. I think someone is just a little bitter that their darling Kristoffer isn't going on full time anymore.

A little bitter??
Here's Lilhead on Taye Diggs....
"Word is wrong- Taye forgot his lines, made up lyrics, had all the songs lower to notes he could hit, made up blocking and managed to make Fiyero sound ghetto.
Hopefully he'll improve by the time you see him."
Sound ghetto? Maybe this is a racial thing.
You people and your conspiracy theories.... too funny.. why don't you just go SEE his performance and give your OWN opinion instead of trying to be Oliver Stone and connect a conspiracy with every comment posted.
I have an opinion and have the right to post it..and I ain't racist... go see the performance and you'll hear it in the context I was referring to.
Sorry Lilhead, but saying that a black actor is sounding "ghetto" is a racial slur, no matter what context you put it in.
White people can sound ghetto too.... go see the show... remember, the character is suppose to end up being the SCARECROW in The Wizard Of Oz..... it wasn't meant as a racial slur so stop trying to turn it into one.
Well, if it's not a racial slur, then tell us what 'ghetto' sounds like.....
uhhh, welcome to my world lilhead. lol j/k But have fun defending yourself against this crowd.
Lilhead, maybe people would take you more seriously if you changed your icon. That is not really a poster for good sense of taste, now is it. Try something with a little class! I used to be beat up here, too, until I changed my photo to the one at the left. Now I get nothing but the respect I deserve! Trust me on this. I speak from experience!
I would go see Taye even if he was'nt prepared. I think he is absolutely gorgeous. I'll sit in the front row and he could look down my top.

I love Kris he was great. He looks like an ex boyfriend so it was a bit tough to watch him.

OMG to all that was said in this post. i have to admit this has been one of the most enjoyable posts to read in a very long time. all of you are very witty and funny.(also with a lot of valid points) I agree with some if he was bad or good i would still go see him, given the opportunity. i also think if there were consistant rumors* about him performing poorly, i would want to see it more. Lilhead, i respect your opinion in the origional post. I as a black man am not offended by your ghetto comment but i can definately understand how others would, i would try bo be more careful next time when you make such comments. I also think that because you are so partial to Kristoffer, it could have possibly warped and blinded your mind to someone other than norbert replacing him. In all honesty i havn't always been a fan of taye on stage, but i'm certain given a couple of days, he could be amazing.
will
I'm waiting to see the show again when Norbert comes back. I liked him in the role. And it's true about average people not knowing who Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs are, I have friends in NYC and who have never even heard of them so If its a publicity stunt it's not a very good one.

Auggie, the poster may promise something for everything but ultimately doesn't deliver the one important thing: a good show.

I'm seeing WICKED (for the first time) on the Dec. 31 matinee, and I'm a bit disappointed that Taye Diggs will be on. I just find him boring. I've yet to see a film or listen to a recording where he wasn't upstaged by someone else. Does he have something magical on stage that doesn't transfer to film or audio? I love this whole thread. It's the Great American Novel.

I don't think Taye Diggs is as unknown as some people think. He has been in a lot of successful films. Two summers ago, for two weeks in a row he had leading roles in the top three films. He was in CHICAGO the movie last year. Just tonight when showing promos for upcoming award shows, they used a clip of him on the red carpet. He gets sit down interviews on the Today Show when his film come out and not some off to the side interview after performing like most Broadway actors. When he does TV work like THE WEST WING or ALLIE MCBEAL, his name and face are featured in all the ads. Though I don't really think the WICKED box office needs a star name, I do think he is one.

*Ahem*
With conspiracy theories abounding let me just step onto the grassy knoll and give my 2 cents worth: I saw "Wicked" last Wednesday replete with Kris Cusick and was really impressed with his performance. Truth is though, I went in with no basis for comparison as I never even heard the score before that day. I bought the CD post haste though and like Butz's characterization just as much.
Had I attended a show with Taye Diggs in the role I am sure I would have loved his performance too simply because it is a realy great show and I can't imagine how anyone could "ruin" a performance of it.
I've got absolutely no idea what Mr. Cusick or Butz or Diggs or whoever plays Fieyro, is or has done on the stage in the past so I am not in a position to critique the performance negatively. All I know is I had two very enjoyable hours of my life while watching the show and part of that was due to Kris Cusick.
AND I anticipate another enjoyable experience at the Gershwin when next I see "Wicked" no matter who is in that role (although I'd probably have a fit if someone other than Idina was playing Elphaba).
Just my 2 cents...Now, everyone can go back to their hair-pullin' and eye scratchin' fun.
