Anyone ventured down to see this? I have a soft spot for the play, but as much as I think much of Williams' later work is actually pretty great, The Mutilated is virtually ignored. (On paper it seems very funny to me.) If any of his shows could work with these two performers, this is the one -- I'd love to read any reactions to the show.
Did Sebastian Venable wear mink? And was the role ever played by Penny Arcade?
I'm not sure if mink would have suited the tropical climates where he found his boys... The Gore Vidal movie adaptation shows him, waist down, in a black speedo I believe--maybe it was made of mink? His mother could surely afford the cleaning.
Is that the full title? Or are those drag queens? ha. I'm confused, but I'd i'll look into tickets.
The Mutilated is the title :P It was the longer of a two-one act flop of Williams' int he late 60s that were collectively called Slapstick Tragedy. (It's probably about as long as Suddenly Last Summer, which is next to never performed with its shorter companion piece as Garden District anymore.)
Mink Stole is a woman who was in a lot of John Waters stuff - Pink Flamingoes, etc Penny Arcade is a woman "performance artist" who had some involvement with Andy Warhol's Factory. And apparently it's been extended :P
Here's a piece about Penny Arcade in the play http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/03/theater/for-penny-arcade-a-new-role-onstage.html?_r=0

Apparently it was a hit during September's annual Williams festival in Provincetown (take that as you will) and here's a short video from then with the two ladies and John Waters discussing the play (kinda) http://www.sohothinktank.org/themutilated.htm
Or are those drag queens?
They are ART-ists. (With a capital ART.)
Honey (and you have to begin this sentence with the epithet "honey"), it doesn't GET any more late-Tennessee-Williams/early-apocalypse than Mink Stole and Penny Arcade in "The Mutilated."
Unless of course, you can cast Lindsay Lohan and Corey Feldman in "In a Bar in a Tokyo Hotel."

Ha!
Cool! Tickets are only $35! Might have to take the trek downtown and see this!
If you do, be sure to report back. It might be worth it just for the experience (the director actually has a fairly decent resume in New York and elsewhere...)
You may have had the pleasure of being accosted by downtown diva Penny Arcade at one of her live shows, or giggled at Mink Stole in the transgressive films of John Waters, but you've never seen them do Tennessee Williams, but do you really need to? Find out in our full review of the new production of Tennessee Williams' The Mutilated at The New Ohio Theatre.

I can't take your reviews anymore, double As. I just can't. I hate the editing. The past two things you've linked I couldn't last long enough to find out what your honest opinions are about the shows you natter on about. I really enjoyed the first few things you linked on here a year ago, but now I feel like your act should be called "Two A-holes Ostensibly Talking About Something They Saw." You have made me not care about your output.

Weird, weird play. Not sure I liked it, but I do recommend seeing it.

The play's mix-n-match structure of direct address, naturalistic scenes, a signing chorus, etc excites. But at this point in his life, Williams put more energy into conceiving and defending his new plays than in writing them. Here, characters can repeat "mutilated," "morbid," and "miracle" until we're blue in the face, but that alone won't turn them into dramatic poetry. Still, the production has spirit and is priced right. It's as weird as Two Character Play from earlier in the season, but much more fun.
I, for one, refuse to click links.
This is a discussion board, not an advert platform for wannabe critics.
Can't we keep the content of the reviews on the damn board?
It is pretty obnoxious that people come on here to link to their websites rather than just post a review like everyone else. I made the mistake of watching one of the Andrew Sisters videos and regretted it ever since.
Apologies for the link
But Isherwood at the NYTs seems to have rather enjoyed it https://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/12/theater/reviews/the-mutilated-by-tennessee-williams-at-new-ohio-theater.html?src=recg
