Hi all,

As our trip is winding down, I wanted to give a big THANK YOU to the board as this chat board has always been so helpful for our trip planning. We come to NYC about every 2 years to see shows and thought of canceling this year when shows started canceling again but so glad we still came. We wore our KN-95 masks during shows and felt safer in the theatres than at “timed entry” at MoMa. That place was PACKed!

We did have to be flexible/nimble and pivot with our plans and have back-up plans as a few of our shows did get cancelled (Music Man, American Utopia, Moulin Rouge) so we had to re-book (MM, AU) or find another alternative (Mrs. Doubtfire).

12/25- Girl From North Country-this was a replacement for our canceled Music Man; my husband is a Dylan fan but I am not; however, the musical was wonderful and the cast was super talented and this is worth a watch. It was dreamy and moving. We bought the cheapest seats and were upgraded.

12/26 matinee- Kimberly Akimbo-super sweet, poignant, and funny. Loved the cast and the Atlantic Theatre is always a great place to see a show.

12/26 evening- Music Man-so happy we got to see Hugh Jackman before he tested positive for Covid. Would have loved to see Sutton Foster too but Kathy Voytko was lovely.

12/27-Clyde’s got our tickets via TodayTix rush tickets and so happy we got to see Uzo Aduba and Ron Cephas Jones on stage and we love Lynn Nottage. It’s different, less like Sweat and more like Fabulation, or the Re-Education of Undine which we saw and loved at the Signature in 2018.

12/28-American Utopia Unchained-our original 12/26 show got canceled so David Byrne made Covid lemonade out of Covid lemons and re-branded his show w/a new setlist. It was great w/some deep cuts like a concert if I had a *complaint* it would be since we went to the first re-branded show I think we were all a little unsure what to do. It *felt* like a concert, we wanted to dance, we think the band could have used the energy/encouragement but since it was a Broadway theatre/show/audience there was that uncertainty. Maybe later shows are different. Maybe I should have danced on the side. We can always watch the Broadway version on HBOMax.

12/29 matinee-To Kill a Mockingbird- Jeff Daniels, classic, enough said, must see.

12/29 evening- Company- show paused about 35 minutes in, no idea why; luckily it resumed; what a funny, funny, show! The cast..wow! Besides Patti Lupone…Christopher Fitzgerald and Christopher Sieber were both lol! Jacob Dickey also did a terrific job as the understudy for Andy.

12/30 matinee-Moulin Rouge was canceled but we have touring tickets when it comes to LA. We tried getting Little Shop of Horror tix but for the prices they were charging and with 2 leads out we went to TKTS and got the cheapest tickets for Mrs. Doubtfire. It was a family Broadway show, Rob McClure was great, and I enjoyed some numbers. If Flying Over Sunset had a matinee we’d chosen that instead but we had already seen all the other matinee choices so…

12/30 evening- Assassins-got the tix after checking Classic Stage’s website daily once we got into town, tickets do pop up here and there. There were also empty seats in the theatre. What a strange, weird, creepy,  interesting, show. My husband had warned me. Did we love it? No. We’re we glad we saw it? Yes. Was the cast super talented. YES! Will I be thinking about it for days? Probably. Will we see it again in LA? Maybe. Ha!

Thank you all again!

So happy you were able to get to NYC and still enjoy your time even with all the sudden cancellations!! MOMA is on my to do list and is my backup plan if I get to NYC and my show is cancelled. But good to know that MOMA is packed even with timed tickets.

It may have been the time we went to MoMa, Tuesday afternoon at 2pm. Maybe if you go early in the day it would be better. Good luck and I hope your show is not cancelled!

Really glad to hear you enjoyed your trip!!! Love your attitude and Flying Over Sunset is the only Broadway show that has a performance this evening starting at 7pm. I'm guessing that's why it didn't have a matinee yesterday.

Yes, I debated on getting tix on TodayTix today since they finally started offering cheaper seats. We’ve been monitoring it since we loved Tony Yazbeck when we saw him from On the Town and wanted to see Michelle Dorrance’s tap sequence but we were doing the Midnight Run at Central Park and wanted to rest up so gave up on seeing a last show on our last night.

Happy for you that your trip was a success and very glad you scored those Assassins tickets.  I am still thinking about it and it is three weeks later.
