Oh, and Cubby B. will be giving a much-anticipated speech...free Cubby wisdom, people!
HAPPY 1 YEAR 'XANAVERSARY' "XANADU" haha. Time flys when you're having fun, and this year has been FUN thanks to you guys
I'm actually planning a little get-du-gether with fans & Du Crew in a few weeks. I'll post more info here soon.
Thanks for the reminder Dyllun Von. I'll be there on Wednesday for Cub-cakes.
I'll be there too!!!

Robbie,
Can you save me a crumb? He-he.

So my friend said he needed something to do, I was in the mood, so back I go to Xanadu tomorrow afternoon! (Wave hi if you're there too!) That's my little way of celebrating the anniversary, by molding another 'Du Crew member!
Congrats to Xanadu! I'm definitely going to make time to celebrate next week with Cubby and the gang!
I was one of those who had no idea I would like it. But as I left that first time, my reaction was much like Cubby, "I don't know why I'm smiling, but I just can't stop!" And so it began...

For the Du Crew out there with Verizon Wireless... they've added XANADU to their ringback tones! So when people call you the can hear either Kerry and Cheyenne singing Xanadu, or Mary and Jackie singing Evil Woman. Fun times. :) Thought I'd share.
I'm sure Cubby would approve!

I don't know if I consider myself a fanadu yet but I will be sitting onstage tomorrow for the first time and could not be more excited! Is Curtis Holbrook in for Cheyenne Jackson or has that not happened yet?
I'll be on stage tomorrow evening (for time number 4). I'm taking a friend who hasn't seen it yet. I'm thinking she'll love it though:) I may be mistaken, but Saved is playing until the end of June, so I imagine Curtis won't be taking over Sonny until after that.

Cheyenne's first day in Damn Yankees is July 10th, which means Curtis comes back to Xanadu on the same day.
I thought the articles said July 1st was when Curtis started as Sonny?
I think i'll be there Wednesday, I was randomly planning on going then anyway how fun!

How do you know? I'm going on the 5th. Please be wrong!

Lucky you... I was wrong! haha I don't know what I was thinking... July 3rd is the real date!
Went to the matinee today, my friend LOVED it!! Except for the fact that all he's been doing for rest of the day is warbling "I'll be guiding you..." over and over and over, it was a great matinee.
My only commentary? I do think the wigs might need a little freshening or replacing before Tony voters come in and/or they film the show for the archives - they're starting to a little wear. Hopefully it's only visible from the stage seats, but just in case...
Otherwise, Cheyenne sang Don't Walk Away a little differently today, going for riffs on the lower tones at the beginning of the song, making a gradual rise to the higher notes we're familiar with. Maybe because his voice is a little tired, or he's just trying something new, but it actually made the song much more thrilling to hear!
Mary and Jackie were hysterical today. Mary was trying to do her bit at the top of Strange Magic, and the guy in front them was giggling hysterically. Jackie looked down, caught a glimpse of the guy mid-giggle, and almost broke character and into laughter herself. And Mary, bless her heart, tried a new chant after "Tear this theatre down, turn it into condos!" This time, is was "Huzzah! Gaah!" It died. But watching her acknowledge it die was priceless.
With Curtis gone, Andre has developed quite a little kooky side! He interacted a lot more with the onstage audience than he used to, and it was really funny to read his lips as he mouthed things to us. And a special little kudo to Patti, for developing that ridiculously unwieldy Thetis monologue into something that is now genuinely hysterical!
It was great to see a new ending to the curtain call, where Cheyenne and Kerry skate down to center stage at the same time, Kerry from upstage right and Cheyenne from upstage left ramps, cross each other centerstage, then bow separately.
OK, end post-mortem. Can't wait to go back! And maybe my friend will know more lyrics by the next time. (cue us singing down CPW tonight, trying to teach him the lyrics...)
It's funny you should say that about the wigs- I always think Kerry's wig needs to be seriously brushed when I see the show, but I thought it was just me.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I was there Friday night when there was an incident in which Cheyenne had to come out of the phone booth not on the skates as per normal...but just in his socks. They handled it very well though, and it gave me a laugh.

I may get into trouble for saying this, but am I wrong in feeling that the powers-that-be are not being sufficiently aggresive in their advertising re: the Tony Award? I know there's the Cubby Bernstein campaign and wish it the best of luck. However, the last time a "little show" (Avenue Q) was up against a dinosaur (Wicked), they kept pounding and pounding and pounding and making their presence known throughout the whole Tony month (not to mention starting the previous fall, when they started their "Avenue Q welcomes (whatever the new show was)" ploy. I assume budgetary constraints play into this, but, if ever it needed to make its presence known, it's now. Winning the Tony cinched Jersey Boys becoming the behemoth that it continues to be to this day; while I can't say the same for Spring Awakening, it certainly gave it a shot in the arm that's kept it going. We still have three weeks -- let's start hustling our favorite show!!!!!!

As the risk of having glowsticks thrown at me the next time I sit on stage (which is very, very soon), I don't think "Xanadu" is as good a show as "Avenue Q" was. Whatever effect that campaign had on it's win, I would hope that voters saw through the blinding green shadow cast by "Wicked" and actually picked the far better show.
Yes, I was very disappointed by "Wicked."
Having only seen "Xanadu" of the nominated musicals...getting down only every few months and choosing to see "Xanadu" almost every time will do that to you...I can't vouch of the quality of any of the other nominated shows. I am a big fan of "Xanadu," but I have no illusions that it is anything more than a very light, expertly cast and highly entertaining slice of theatrical merengue that obviously has something special about it to bring me back time and time again.
I'm hoping upon hope that it gets Best Book, but Best Musical...I'm not holding my breath. The fact that's it's still here after a year when so much pre-opening scorn was heaped upon it is its own reward

As far as anyone knows, is Cheyenne going to be performing in the June 7th matinee? 'Cuz if he's not, I might as well shoot myself and get it over with -- not because of me (I've seen it 9 times already and intend to go some more) but because two coworkers, on my raving and raving about the show, got tickets for the June 7th matinee. They both fell in love with his picture and are DYING to see him in person. So, please Cheyenne, please, please be there on the 7th! My life wont be worth living at work if you're out that day!
HUZZAH!!!!!
Ed - That sounds like a case of... "Cursed be your life... sister, you seem to be working through something there... ya wanna taaaalk about it?"
Hey -
just a reminder that Kerry will be at Virgin Megastore in Times Square at 5pm being interviewed by the in-house DJ and they'll be playing Xanadu, Bat Boy, Hairspray and of course, selections from Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust throughout the day and the interview.
It's not often you can hear the cast recording playing through 100 speakers
Not to mention you can schmooze with the entire 'Du Crew AND Cubby B. tomorrow!! Come eat cub-cakes for a good cause :)

Everythingtaboo... I was at that matinee too! Where were you sitting?
Interesting info on the curtain call re: Kerry and Cheyenne! I believe wanting to see them take their bows in a different way since I last saw the show warrants another visit!

So, who is this Cubby Bernstein anyway, really? Is he like one of the producers kids?
Anyone going to the mat today? I'll be there on stage, and then hanging around for Cubby wisdom after.
masterthes, Cubby Bernstein is "the PREMIERE Tony Campaign Manager," as Duncan Sheik said. What's a Tony Campaign Manager? http://cubbybernstein.com
dancingthrulife, awesome! Hope to see you there w/ a cubcake in your hand and a smile on your face :)
