"The Addams Family" at the Kennedy Center

Hi gang,

I was just wondering if anyone was going to see "The Addams Family" at the Kennedy Center. I have two sets of tickets for the weekend of the 13th and can't wait.

On a side note, I'm looking forward to dinner on the Rooftop Terrace again. Has anyone eater their? I like the food and views of DC.

Another heatwave coming! Be careful out there!

I'll be at the matinee on the 14th. I missed out on an initial Goldstar offering, so purchased a cheap ticket in the 2nd tier. Had a great seat in the orchestra for Memphis via Goldstar.

I ate at the rooftop terrace last year. It was fine.

I'll be at the matinee on the 14th as well. I'm also going on the 15th for the matinee. Seat wise, I did well. Front Orchestra on the 14th and a box on the 15th.

Enjoy Dottie!

Saw it yesterday . . . and now I understand why it didn't do well on Broadway. The story is thin and the lyrics really clunky in places. But I've always wanted to see Douglas Sills perform, and he more than fulfilled expectations. And the cast as a whole was excellent, especially Courtney Wolfson as Wednesday. So the consensus among our group was that it was worth seeing once, though we probably wouldn't go a second time!

Was at last Saturday's matinee (7/21). Aside from Gaelen (remembering her from the original Legally Blonde cast) the show bored me. Sadly, due to lack of a stimulating story line, I fell asleep several times between the first and second acts. The other two people who went with me to see it absolutely enjoyed it. However, like the last poster, they agree that it would not be a show they would want to see more than once.

I'm glad I only paid $39 to see this. Lots of empty seats throughout the opera house.

I enjoyed Act 1. Act 2 bored me.

I was a little leery of all the kids in the 2nd tier, and I was quite surprised at how well behaved all of them were!!

Once was enough. And although the performances were all good, I found most of the proceedings pointless.

RE: This musical at the KENNEDY CENTER

I saw the show on Thursday the 12th. My thoughts are pretty much in line with all of the previous posts. I will add that - even with all its flaws - this version is still far superior than what I saw on Broadway. Douglas Sills is a much better fit for Gomez than Nathan Lane. The new storylines and songs improved what is still a weak (and overdone) storyline.

I did eat at the rooftop terrace pre-show and it was nice. It was convenient to have dining options at the venue.

On a side note...I also caught "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson" at the Studio Theatre and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone who is going to be in DC soon. I saw it was extended to August 19.

One thing that particularly bothered me -- "The Game" that was spoken of in such ominous tones turned out to be nothing more than "share your secrets." This is the freakin' Addams Family! Any after-dinner game they play should involve chainsaws and machetes, at the very least.

Yes, I realize the difficulty of trying to portray such a game on stage. RE: This musical at the KENNEDY CENTER But still, they could have done so much more with the idea of the mysterious game. Besides which, Gomez wasn't supposed to HAVE any secrets in the first place. They'd just done an entire song about the fact. So it wouldn't make sense that he and the family had played this game frequently.

I love the tour but do miss the squid song. Douglas is just an amazing "Gomez" and his "Not today" is amazing! Sara in my opinion is not the best "Morticia" but she passes. She danced sharper and with more energy at the Sunday mat. At the Saturday mat, she seemed tired.

I enjoyed seeing two wardrobe malfuntions before my favorite scene, "The Tango".

Something I noticed for those of you who have seen it before. In "One Normal Night", Wednesday sings "one normal house without a mouse to feed a plant or two". In the original Broadway show we see "Morticia" feeding a mouse to a plant, but now that scene is gone and "Wednesday" still sings it. It just does not make sense to me without that scene.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing it again in Ct in February, but fear it will be the non-equity version. We will just have to wait and see.

Wait... has the whole "squid thing" been removed for the tour?
