Saw this tonight and thought it was rather delightful. Door slamming farce is very out of style in New York these days, which is a shame because the form is so potent for laughs. I pretty much had a smile on my face the whole time. My guess is others might not be as positive as I am, as the play is both silly and heavily-plotted. Ben Jonson purists (are there any left?) might also have problems with the adaptation, which is in no way literary, but preserves the original's fabulous plot. I think it's fairly comparable in quality to Red Bull's "The Metromaniacs" or the Irish Rep's "London Assurance". If you liked those plays, you'll probably like this. The cast was rather excellent, and the set was handsome.
Running time was two hours including a 15-minute intermission. The language has all been updated, so no need to bring your Shakespeare dictionary.
I had a ticket for a performance that got cancelled on what was supposed to be the show's last week. Very glad they were able to record this after the show closed and they just announced it will be streaming beginning February 1st. It is free with an optional donation, donate something if you can.
