I haven't been able to stop listening to my Avenue Q OBC. I think it's one of the more intelligent and creative shows in a long time but wonder if it will be over shadowed at the Tonys by shows like Wicked, Boy from Oz, and Wonderful Town. I was wondering what everyone's take on this was and what nominations you think the show may receive/hopefully win?

I think Avenue Q is going to actually win Best Musical. I think Wicked will recieve Best Book and Wonderful Town Best Revival and may be best score for Boy From Oz- I think the 2004 Tony Awards are going to be all mixed up- Not like one show swiping all the awards. Its going to be a grand show- I like it better that way!

No telling yet how Fiddler, Assassins, Bombay Dreams and a possible commercial transfer of Caroline, or Change will affect the landscape. My guess is that Avenue Q will win the book and score "intelligentsia" awards with a "bigger" show (read: something that will make a mint on the road) taking Best Musical. Wicked seems to be the leading contender right now for the top prize, although the revamped Bombay Dreams is opening right before Tony cutoff, and could be a major contender as well.

no, avenue q is going to win book, score, and possibly director. It has about a 30% chance of winning musical. where as Wicked has about 40%. as for the other 30%, we don't know who else will be nominated. I wouldn't be too worried about Boy from OZ and Wonderful Town if I were you MQPL.

True.
I didnt even consider the new shows opening- There are so many. And from what I hear on broadwayworld radio, though for some reason it wont work anymore, Bombay Dreams has a nice score. But I still think Avenue Q will win Best Musical.

I don't know though...Boy From Oz has a real good chance of winning Best Musical! As much as I love Wicked, I don't think it will get Best Musical...I however hope that Idina wins for Best Leading Actress and Carol Shelley for Best Supporting Actress...and whatever they do, Joel Grey better not win for Best Supporting Actor...I mean yea he is brilliant, but awards should NOT be given on your name...I hope and think that Wicked will also get Best Scenic Design and Best Book! I am really rooting for Wicked this year! But there are so many good show out there right now! We'll see...only 6 more months...LOL

bernadette, it is highly doubtful that boy from oz will win best musical. honestly, its up against the two biggest new shows of the season, avenue q and wicked. as much as i luv wicked, i even doubt THAT will win.

Wow, that's a really good point about all of the new shows. It had slipped my mind to factor that in yet. Im hoping that it will come down between Wicked and Avenue Q for best musical and even though I love Indina Menzel and Kristin Chenowith I think Avenue Q is deserving of some nominations in the acting department too mainly, Stephanie D’Abruzzo, John Tartaglia, and Rick Lyon (I think they're insanely talented)

stephanie d'abruzzo, john tartaglia, and rick lyon are probably going to go into supporting. They have a ten times better chance there. They are all so talented and deserve awards so that's where they should be, other wise they'll be crushed by lead of much bigger shows.

Oh yeah, I completely agree about them going into the supporting category. I'm excited to see how that turns out, they definitly deserve it. I'm just crossing my fingers that Idina will walk away with best actress - She's long over-due!

Ave Q (at least at this point) should win for best musical. Urinetown should have won best musical. BUT unfortunately it's all about politics. Whatever show has the best touring possiblilties will win best muscial.

in my opinion, Idina will probably win actress. She has the best chance out of everyone else. I mean let's face it, we already know Kristin Chenoweth and Donna Murphy will be nominated. And Donna's show will only be nominated for two others, revival and whatever the comittee agrees on. when an ctress has to carry a show like that, shes pretty much on her own, and therefore leaving donna behind. Kristin has already won a tony and has had enough pride in becoming the critic's little darling. Idina deserves some recognition that she has worked hard for.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the award called: "Featured" Actor or Actress, and not "Supporting Actor or Actress"?

Best Book, Direction and Probably Best Score for Avenue Q.
Best Musical and Actress will go to Wicked. Not sure for which actress, but one of them will win.

"and may be best score for Boy From Oz"

It can't be nominated for Best Score, it's a back catalogue.

If Caroline, or Change moves it's going to be 1994 (I think) all over again.

That was the year Passion defeated the Beast. Kushner is the man of the year and Jeannie Tesori will be rewarded for going back to her more 'experimental' roots after inflicting MILLIE upon us.

Its going to be another "Millie vs. Urinetown" this year. Wicked is much easier to sell and big touring places across the US are going to want to have Wicked in their lineup vs. Avenue Q. Wicked will win Best Musical as did Millie.

Avenue Q will take home Book and Score.. thats a given. It has a VERY good shot at taking home Featured Actor and Actress if Stephanie and John are placed there (with an upset going to Isabel Keating for Boy from Oz).

Thats my predictions..

I didn't catch Avenue Q on stage, but i have to agree that the soundtrack is indeed great ! As for the Tonys, since i didn't see him mentioned, i am sure we all agree that the Best Actor one is already in Hugh's hands !!!

Take care

Just saw Avenue Q this past weekend and was completely bowled over. It is imaginative, creative, witty, musical, and just a sheer joy. I saw it right after Boy From Oz. BFO left me flat. Avenue Q left me breathless. In my book it should win everything it gets nominated for.

I haven't seen the show yet, much to my dissapointment, but love the cast recording! I hope it does well at the Tony's, but I also want Wicked to do well..decisions, decisions...

I adored Stephanie and the guy who plays Rod.
He deserves an award. I loved the whole cast of Q!
I also want the plant to win from Little Shop.
He is incredible.
