best musical: wicked lead actress: idina menzel(kristin is sure to be nominated too) supporting: carolle shelley lead actor: hugh jackman supporting: not too sure, i'd like to see Norbert but he hasn't even performed that much so far best book: wicked best score: wicked best scenic design: wicked best choreography: no clue best costume: wicked director: avenue q best revival: little shop
i'm sure that avenue q will win more than that, but i think wicked will win the majority of the awards.
Although I liked Wicked, I don't believe it will win that many awards. Especially for the supporting actor spots and the score. Perhaps not even the book.
The awards I see Wicked having a good chance at are:
= Leading Actress (whoever that may be) = Scenic Design (They spent enough money on the damn thing...) = Best Musical
Cor- Wicked was incredible well Kristin and Idina were, but Wonderful Town was tied as my favorite show this season tied with Avenue Q THAT IS. Q Wicked follows and then Little Shop. Donna Murphy gave one of the most impressive performances I have ever seen in my entire life. I had the same feeling about Kerry in Hairspray last year and she was robbed so you never know!

"Sing the words, Patti!!!!" Stephen Sondheim to Patti LuPone.
If I am thinking correctly, LSOH is NOT a revival. It was never on Broadway, just off-Broadway. Also, wouldn't Stephanie be considered a leading actress?
I think AVENUE Q is going to have settle for book and score and its producers really need to hope CAROLINE OR CHANGE doesn't open otherwise, its Tonys could go to or be split with CAROLINE. I can't see either AVENUE or CAROLINE taking the Tony. CAROLINE really splits audiences and a lot of people won't vote for it. AVENUE Q is the kind of small show Tony voters give writing awards but almost never best musical. The failure of URINETOWN on the road will have all the road voters going with WICKED or BOMBAY DREAMS. As much as I liked PASSION, its win was mostly to stick it to Disney for bringing a theme park show to Broadway and for not playing by Broadway's rules. Sadly, I don't think PASSION would have won best musical opposite AIDA or LION KING.
I hope Big River gets nominated for Best Revival, even though it probably doesn't have a chance against Assassins, Fiddler, and Wonderful Town. Big River was truly a show about reinventing material with fabulous direction and the cast was top notch. That scene where all the sound was cut and the cast signed the last verse of "I'm waiting for the light to shine" was truly one of the best theatre moments of 2003 IMO.

You're right Bwaytheatre11, Little Shop has not ever played on Broadway but since through the years it has reached a sort of "classic" or at the very least, "widely known" status Little Shop will go into the Revival category for the Tonys - much like how last season's La Boheme was redirected to the Revival category (not because it had ever played on Broadway, but because it was considered a "classic")
As far as Stephanie, it would be nice to see her nominated as a lead, but she probably wouldn't have much of a chance againt Idina, Kristin, and Donna - and I think they may consider her Featured since Avenue Q seems very heavily ensemble based, at least to me it does.
Corine, how can you say Wonderful Town should win revival hands down when two major revivals, Fiddler on the Roof and Assassins (should it be placed in the revival category), are still yet to be seen? Fiddler will be directed by David Leveaux, who did manage a different interpretation of Nine last season. Assassins has an interesting cast, and I imagine director Joe Mantello will fare much better with that material than with Wicked. Wonderful Town is a glorified Encores staging...and I have to say, the mildest Wonderful Town I've ever seen. Should Donna stay healthy, she'll win Best Actress, and the voters will feel like they've taken care of that show. But Fiddler and Assassins, if either are especially strong, could take the Best Revival category with ease.
much like how last season's La Boheme was redirected to the Revival category (not because it had ever played on Broadway, but because it was considered a "classic"
Actually, La Boheme was a revival as it had at least three Broadway productions in the past.
Ok you are right but the critics love Wonderful Town. I have to see Fiddler and the rest you are right. I still want Wonderful Town to win for Mrs Comden Green! Wonderful Town is a magicial show and Donna is beyond Wonderful. I hope to see the show again soon. Updated On: 1/3/04 at 12:22 PM
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher
I think Avenue Q is the only musical out there right now worthy of ANY award. It's honest, witty, hysterical, and the actor's voices are the best I've heard in a long time. And I love the orchestra. Wicked might win with best actress, but Avenue Q really deserves best musical at least.
"I really liked the show--Wish I saw Boy's Night...Am I allowed as I am not a boy anymore:)"-duffyny1
Personally, I think that Avenue Q is the most innovative and creative musical in the last five years. I am rooting for it to win the best musical prize, I think it deserves the recognition. I also think it will win best score, best book, and best director. I agree that the entire cast will be put in the "featured" categories (technically that it where they will end up unless the producers petition otherwise, but that is highly unlikely, because no one is above the title). I think that Stephanie d'Abruzzo and John Tartaglia have a good chance in their respective categories and I'm also rooting for their victory.
i agree with gherbert. I am hoping for 'Avenue Q' to win best Musical because it deserves it. Unlike 'Wicked', 'Avenue Q' would get a hurt at the box office if the left with nothing. Because it is such a petite show. 'Wicked' on the other hand, the more bad publicity it gets, the more of an audience they draw. As much I love 'Wicked', and know it will win some Tonys, I am keeping my fingers crossed that 'Avenue Q' will get some too.

My predictions with what is out now (Havent posted them yet, but also can not forget the new stuff heading on its way like Fiddler and Bombay Dreams and such) *I'm only doing musicals because I havent gotten to any plays out this year, but I am dying to see Anna in the Tropics, which I think will win for Best Play.
Best Musical- Avenue Q Best Revival- Wonderful Town Best Scenic Design- Little Shop of Horrors Best Score- Taboo (If it can be nominated) Best Book- Wicked Best Choreography- Never Gonna Dance or Boy from Oz Best Actress- Idina Menzel Best Featured Actress- Stephanie J. Block Best Actor- Hugh Jackman Best Featured Actor- Rick Lyon
elphie, i dont think that it will be nominated. it can because the majority of the songs are new. but people in theatre like critics and tony voters havent really warmed up to Taboo. sry, just the way it is. I would like to see it nominated for some. It would show that any show has a chance. Even the black sheep.
