First off, here's my review of the show: https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.cfm?lastpage=on&thread=854150&dt=061205043001
As I said, "the score is just too bland."
I stick by that statement.
However, after listenign to the CD, I am finding it more nejoyable. There is nothing "great" or "grand" about it. It just sounds a lot better when it's playing into my ears, I guess.
They recorded a lot of the show, which I was happy about. Not the whole thing, but enough that brings me back to the Circle in the Square laughing.
The show is, without a doubt, laugh out loud funny. The CD, I feel, captures that.
I now find myself always humming "Magic foo-ooot."
If you saw the show, buy this CD. Even if you weren't over impressed with the score - buy it. It sounds 74.768% better on the CD.
I LOVE the cd! My two favorite songs are "the I love you song" and "I speak six languages"

life is random and unfair... life is pandemonium!!
74.768% better, eh? Sounds good to me. Amazon's still selling them right?

I completely agree! When I saw the show, I was debating whether to get the CR or not, but I'm so glad I decided to. It's definitely a score that gets better with each listen, as you start to discover new gems that you didn't notice before.
But I must ask everyone's opinion of The I Love You Song...
As I was leaving the theatre, I heard one woman comment that she loved that song, but felt that the "depression runs in our family" line was unneccessary and took away from the overall beauty of the song. I myself could lean either way, but I almost feel like I agree with her, that it's adding a bit of comedy that doesn't really need to be there. Like the song overall is touching and sweet, but this line pulls it away from that.
What do you think? I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts.

I thing that you need some comedy. I mean, it's a child singing.
BSo- you sure its not, 74.769% better on the CD. but 768? lol.
i still need to buy the OCR, i love the i love you song.
Look, I did the calculation 10 times, at least.
Get off my back.
I think the reason people don't realize the music is good until they're listening to it on cd is because the score perfectly fits the show and is telling you so much about the characters, etc, that you don't have time to take in the melody and walk out humming it. This is definitely the cd of the season that I enjoy the most.

I am in love with Pandemonium, My unfortunate Erection (coz i can belt it out), The I LOve you Song is just an eargasm all round...i also like the Counsellors Prayer thingy, and the 'Second' song is awesome....i just find the 'Goooddbyyeeee' bits a bit tedious thats all :)

I love when Leaf is talking about his hair, and the way he says 'pleasant to the touch'.
I want Jesse Tyler Ferguson for my own!
The subtle nuances in the score are what makes the musical for me. It is just fantastic how many little expressions that nobody else hears but me get me to laugh out loud. Then the person next to me will laugh at something I hadn't heard. I hear something new every day on that recording.
