Hey everyone, I just wanted to say in defense of us who were there, it was 6 in the morning and I know I was there since like 1:30am. When someone puts a camera in your face and you haven't had much sleep, being particularly articulate wasn't at the forefront of my mind.
I wouldn't vote for me either, I voted Greg because he actually talked about the meaning of the show. In defense of others though who weren't as insightful, I was there for hours with these people, and I met and spoke with some of those who were videotaped, and their appreciation of the show wasn't articulated well in their videos because they were on the spot and still half asleep. A few of them had incredible stories about how Rent helped them come out to their family, or how it touched them, but like I said, 6am, no matter how prepared you were when a bright light is in your face you could blank on everything you wanted to say. I know I did. And half the people who signed up to do it, backed out when the camera came because they got stage fright.
And for arguements sake, they ask "Why are you the biggest RENThead" not "How has Rent changed your life" so while I agree the bulk of us didn't exactly portray why we were big Rent fans maybe we just didn't think of the question in the way all of you would have preferred us to answer it. (But really, where ARE all those Idina fans coming from? They were like hundreds of them there!)
Also, in defense of the girl who only saw the show twice, I don't think the number of times has to do with how big a fan you are. I first saw the show in 97 and haven't been able to afford to see it many times since, I still hold the show's message and the experience I had close to my heart.
I've been reading a lot of the posts here and in the LJ comm and though a good number of you brought up points I agree with some people were really being rude and horrific to the entries. I thought part of the show's message was to show love to one another? I guess I was wrong.
Um yes so hi, I'm Joliz and after lurking for months I finally decided to join.
