Because according to the people at Billy he's been the one giving out the best performances, and the Tonys nominate and eventually award THE best performance - this is where he debate is right now...

There is talk about all shows and how things can be CONSIDERED for nominations. ie....what to do about the Billys. TECHNICALLY only the opening night actor is eligible (if I understand things correctly) but the nom committee can change things.
My thought about all three being nominated is that then they are awarding the ROLE not the actor.
HOWEVER, I can finally count myself among Billy Elliot fans. Saw Trent christmas night. I was quite moved and now desperately want to see at least one more Billy. (Ironically, the friend that attended the show with me had seen the show previously....and saw the same Billy!)

BETMNY: I am pretty sure that I can say the same thing about you and David. You are always on here ranting about how great David is. Like I already said, I enjoyed Kiril's performance, but Trent had the best performance for me. It does not matter how taller they are than the other. Billys in the past have stayed past broken voices, so far all three of the boys are fine.

leon Cooke being the best example. I think he was 16 by the time he left. I personally think all the Billy's bring something special to the role, something Tony worthy. I think they'll all be nominated for best actor, it really is the farest solution. I do have a preference to David, but they are all amazing.

Whoever understands acting, and moreover classical ballet, would prefer David. Of course, if you don't mind a latino or a black actor playing a British lad.
svg123: It was YOU saying that David should go first because he's taller and has a deeper voice. I just said that Kiril is the tallest of the three boys, and that unlike Kiril, David has a masculine voice.

Good grief BETMNY - give it a rest will you. This is "The Billy Elliot Love Thread" not "The David Alvarez Love Thread".
It's obvious that you think David is wonderful and there is nothing wrong with that. It's when you come out with comments like
"For what I know from the inside of the production team, David is Mr. Daldry's favorite Billy of all time (he was at David's show two night ago!). And I can understand why!!!"
I'm afraid you lose all credibility. Even if David was Mr Daldry's favourite I'm sure he would not be so insensitive as to go round broadcasting it.
Why can't you just enjoy all of the Billys rather than praising David and doing just the opposite to Trent and Kiril?

I haven't seen Kiril or Trent performing, I only saw David a few weeks ago. I've though seen the video clips on youtube and indeed Kiril has a very soft voice. David and Trent have strong voices, which go more with the character.
I can also understand why so many people are praising David's acting and dancing skills with so much passion. It should be true that each of these boys bring something special to the character, but there's something unique about David that has impressed professional actors, including his colleagues, and critics alike.

Posted: 12/29/08 at 2:35pmI know this is pretty random, but I was just wondering if Billy Elliot had a show curtain? If so, what does it look like? I'm seeing the show for the first time on Saturday, and I love seeing a show curtain upon entering the theatre! Thanks alot.

Posted: 12/29/08 at 3:53pmWhen you walk in there is a black see through curtain. I don't know if you saw Beauty and The Beast (when it was still running) or Mary Poppins, but during the prologue for both of those the curtain became see through, it's like that as soon as you walk in for Billy Elliot. After the first act a red curtain (like the Gypsy curtain) comes down, and comes down again at final curtain.

Posted: 12/29/08 at 5:02pmGood lord...nice too see not much difference from the old London BWW thread. My 2 bits...Kiril does the sweet Billy persona and sweeping russian style dancing better, Trents tap is better and does the brooding Billy, David does technical ballet better and does seem to be a bit better at acting(facial expressions in my opinion). I can pick and choose the best of a dozen Billys Ive seen and put together the perfect Billy, Ive seen better dancers better singers and better actors, but not all in one Billy. ALL of them balanced out, the people picking them have done their job well. There is no one perfect Billy so when we post here about the talents of anyone Billy and in particular boast how so much BETTER they are then any of the others thats just opening up listing past Billys that might be better then them in parts. I dont have a problem with people saying this Billy is better at this or that...but its a preference to say this Billy is the best overall not a fact. I like Kiril better, I like his style of dance better but im not a knowledgeable fan of ballet so those people might like David. If Id have seen Trent more then once his Tap and Angry Dance might change my mind. To each his own.

So tell me rsuttini how many times have you seen all three Billys to make this comparison?

I totally agree with sking and rsuttini, David is the best at acting, and this is what THEATER is all about at the end of day: ACTING (not mentioning his classical ballet skills which are unsurpassed).
svg123 and Billy Whiz, just because there are people who love David doesn't mean that they can't express their love for the show through their love for David in this particular thread. Just think that some people, like me, get really annoyed by your corny and tacky opinions.
David Alvarez is a diamond that was discovered, and they are polishing this diamond day after day, and that's why all hear about David's shows is what you hear, and what you hear about his performances is what you hear, and that's why the debate so far on whether nominating David for the Tony alone or with the other two boys.

Well said Elke. I have always said that all 3 boys are talented. I don't have a problem with people having a favourite and talking about that but what I do object to is when they are rubbishing the other boys to try to get their point across.
For a start whilst Trent was the World Junior Irish Dance Champion he has also done ballet from an early age. How anybody can say Kiril is the shameless king of Kitsch is beyond me and I actually think it is deplorable. Thankfully all three boys seem to be unaffected by all this as they are polite, down to earth and modest young men.
