re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

I saw the first New York preview the other night and really loved the show. HOWEVER, here we are only TWO nights later, and already I'm getting worried that so many people are going to start so many threads about it that we're all going to be sick of it...and those who haven't seen it are going to either go into the theatre with unrealistic expectations OR not go at all.

I didn't mean this as a slap to you, Wishing. In fact, I'm hoping THIS THREAD becomes the "main" one and we don't have the board flooded with threads...for BILLY's sake! re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could keep all posts about a single show in one thread? It seems to always be attempted and never accomplished.

re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

I know, CATS, it's true. I'm just concerned about BILLY being maligned because it's being "over-exposed." It's not a "perfect" show, so I worry about the backlash. But, as someone else said, it's the performances, the drama, the dancing and the emotion at the core of the show that makes it such a thrilling theatrical experience. With any luck, it'll survive being over-saturated and coldly critiqued because it's got heart. re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

I love this show! I wish it nothing but the best this season. It's smart, inventive, beautiful, and really original.

I don't mind all the BE threads. Remember when the boards were flooded with ACL when that show opened?

re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

Link below ... From NYCVisit.com and BillyElliotBroadway.com -

"Meet Trent Kowalik" video has been up since first of the month.

I believe "Meet David Alvarez" went up today.

Watch for "Meet Kiril Kulish".

(I know someone took the "Meet Trent" video and posted it to YouTube, but the videos are better quality at the original link.)

re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

How will they determine which "Billy" will perform on Opening Night? I'm assuming a cage match of the Billys is not likely so will they simply just go with the set show schedule for that week or actually pick which kid they think is the best?

re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

Saw it tonight in center orchestra with Trent.

Exceptional.
Sweeping.
Incredible.

I'm at a loss for words other than this is showmanship and storytelling at its finest. Superb all-around. No flashy lights or elaborate flim-flam... This is the core and solidity of exceptional dance, song and tale.

I had to keep reminding myself that this was a 13 year-old kid holding the spotlight amongst a cast of 40 other excrutiatingly talented individuals. Unbelievable performance. Just jaw-dropping.

re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

I saw Kiril this afternoon, and was flat out floored by the whole show. I was in awe of that child though.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

Have y'all been following Greg Jbara's video blog on Broadway.com? In the latest one he interviews Tommy Batchelor, currently the understudy for all 3 Billy's. According to the interview Tommy is now going to be gradually worked into the rotation so for a while there will be 4 boys playing the part. This is really good insurance against the day when the first of the boys discovers his voice breaking!

does anyone know which Billy/Michael went on last night?

re: The Billy Elliot Love Thread

I'd really like to see three performances with the different leads ... any idea how to find out what the boy's schedules are? Every ticket office I call seems to know nothing about who is starring when. I can't find a # for the the theater itself...
