That's just pathetic.
But bwaydreamer calling us losers wasn't pathetic?
The simple fact is, it's called a cast recording.
But I'm pretty sure this was on purpose. Think about it, it's on Comedy Central. The majority of people who watch don't know very much about Broadway. They know what a SOUNDTRACK is. A cast recording? Well, I'm sure they could put two and two together, but marketing wise, it's just easier.

I think it's hilarious - and little weird - that people keep saying this was done intentionally.
I was thinking that it might have been intentional also. It is Parker and Stone. It is listed as the OBCR on their website.
Outside the relatively small world of musical theatre fans, cast recordings have always been lumped with soundtracks. People call them soundtracks because in 95% of music stores across the world, it is the section where they find cast recordings. Most online CD retailers do the same. I can't tell you how many of those annoying plastic stickers across the top of a new CD has the word SOUNDTRACK emblazoned across the top. I know the difference, but to be so anal about it is just beating your head against a brick wall. The Boston Pops is located in the classical section even when the recorded material isn't classical. Not to mention, there is a specific "Classical" period even though the entire genre of the same name consists of all other periods including Baroque and Romantic, et al. Such are the inconsistencies of the world and only the fanatics freak out about them. Meanwhile, if the marketing team can sell more CDs by calling them soundtracks, then good for them.
So I am confused. Is it only available to order from their website or purchase at the theater? Best Buy is listing it as being available on June 7th at their stores.
They just put the whole cast album on their Facebook page for FREE listening (for those that haven't bought a copy yet)

In case you guys didn't see it, here's the commercial.
The funny thing is, in the title and description of the youtube video, it says CAST ALBUM and CAST RECORDING.

I used to think it so juvenile to get one's panties in a twist over this. It doesn't make me as testy as when, say, people think a pre-recorded orchestra would do just fine as a replacement for a real one, but it does make my eyes roll to the back of my head.
At any rate, the OP sort of asked for the over-reactors by creating a thread just to say "Egh, 'SOUNDTRACK'" and, well, overreacting. =P
Even on iTunes, all cast recordings (at least all of my own) are categorized SOUNDTRACK.
I personally have to change them to CAST RECORDING.
Guess outside of theatre folks, no one really cares.
