The "Younger" people are certainly not being priced out. Every single rush in town for years now caters exclusively to them.
When they no longer are eligible for it, they will be priced out.
Today I aced my colonoscopy & last week my cystoscopy so I am feeling fine and all is right with the world.
Ok, but then they are no longer the "younger" audience you were referring to. I am not that "younger" audience and I still manage to see every single show on Broadway each season and pay more than $40 for MAYBE 4 or 5 of the almost 40 shows each season, and I never spend more than $60.
We will agree to disagree. It is a problem but I see it as a bigger one than you. Time will tell who was right.
What do we disagree on? The prices I pay to see shows?
Your argument is the same as it always is. That theater prices are going up and soon every ticket will be a thousand dollars. But it's the same argument that's been made for decades and still there are affordable options for all shows. Discounts, standing room, rush, lotteries etc. When you make statements like that, it always seems like you're upset you can't get prime orchestra seats for $25 (or is that too much) like you could get in 1975 so "woe is me, we'll have to sit this one out. AGAIN.", when your argument is crap. You just don't want to take advantage of the cheaper options to see the shows you want to see. If you and your wife can afford all the junk you say you can than I'm sure you can afford $45 a seat to see FOLLIES. The problem is you just don't WANT to sit in the rear mezz because you either feel it's beneath you or you just don't like those seats because you feel you deserve better for YOUR money.
I end this increasingly testy exchange with saying I could care less where I sit.
I just think it is a rip off . You think it Ok .We both have our opinion. No need to get testy about it. Take this attitude the next time someone says something about high prices or am I the only one who does.
I respect your opinion but disagree & decide not to get their knickers in a twist over it. You don't respect mine and that is the difference. Anyone who has an opposing view must be villified .
As they say in France "Cest La vie"
I guess I am no longer on your Christmas card list. Such is life. Have a nice day.
The only reason I'm getting "testy" is because you keep saying we disagree but I don't know what your argument is! You say you have no problem where you sit yet you refuse to sit in the less expensive seats saying they are a "rip off". What price would you set for the rear mezz at FOLLIES (since that's the show the Mrs. desperately wants to see but doesn't want to get her Coach bag stolen by the trash up there). Because $45 for a great seat up there seems pretty damn reasonable to me.
roxy -- nearly EVERYTHING increases in price as the years go by. I can remember 8 cent stamps!
I just don't understand COMPLAINING about the prices. If they are too expensive for you, don't go. Period. I CHOSE not to go Jackman because I didn't think I'd be happy in the back of mezz -- but I didn't COMPLAIN about it. I felt I couldn't afford the type of seats I wanted. Big Deal.
And when people STOP paying the price asked, the show will either come down in price or choose to close -- that's the way it works. It won't show anyone anything. It's not personal -- it's business!
Mr Roxy, FOLLIES is not going to make a profit (in terms of recoupment) at the discounted telecharge prices you 'balk at'. Although some shows (e.g. BOOK OF MORMON) certainly do not need to be grossing as much as they do to make a profit, there aren't many examples of this. I don't think the producers of FOLLIES are being greedy - theatre costs a lot of money to mount and run and it is necessary to charge these prices to pay the bills {Which I highly doubt FOLLIES is going to manage to do now, unfortunately}. If everyone thought the way you did then there wouldn't be any shows to see.
