"The Boyfriend" @ Goodspeed is TOP Notch

I had the PLEASURE of seeing "The Boyfriend" at The Goodspeed Opera house and I can only hope this one makes its way to the Great White Way.

The entire facility is absolutely beautiful and the theatre being around 250-300 seats is intimate and cosy.

The show was so uplifting, fun and bright. You could tell the entire company was having a blast. AND the best part..you could see the Julie"isms" EVERYWHERE. She made this production as tight as anything and the staging on the small stage worked SO well.

The entire company was so much fun to watch..the singing, dancing costumes were ALL amazing and probably better than some stuff i've seen ON Broadway.

Jessica Grove's performance was outstanding. She reminded me of a cross between Julie Andrews herself and Hallie Mills in "Parent Trap". If this ever did come to Bway, I honestly feel she'd earn her 1st Tony and finally have the star power she deserves.

Sean Palmer gave an excellent performance and it was a total 160 turn around from Tony Manero in "Saturday Night Fever".

I REALLY had a blast and it's going to be going on tour so if it comes to your city.. Go see it. You're in for a huge treat.

Thanks for the review. I've felt that Jessica Grove has been on the brink of stardom for some time now. Hopefully her performance in The Boyfriend will make that happen!

Jessica has an amazing voice, and I truly hope this comes to broadway so I can see it.

The boyfriend is a great musical anyway, and if it's as good as you say it is, then I am thrilled and excited and hopeful to see it.

THE BOYFRIEND is such a marvellous show. It mocks the silliness of musical comedy itself, but in a very gentle, affectionate way (this was not the case in the repellent '70s movie version). I hope it wipes out every memory of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE.
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

This is an old thread, but are the sets good? I've seen pics of it and the sets look awful, and I'm seeing the show tomorrow.

I attended the final performance at Goodspeed. It was delightful, but Broadway material it's not. It's a sweet, sort of cheesier version of Millie. Jessica was amazing, and the entire cast was so funny. One girl reminded me of a young Angela Lansbury.

well, the sets really reminded me of a scaled down version of DIRTY ROTTENs set. I believe it might even be the same designer. I really hope you will all go see the tour!

Sorry, Millie is a cheesier version of The Boyfriend, not the other way around.

Thoroughly Modern Millie was born when producer Ross Hunter couldn't get the screen rights to ... The Boyfriend. So, what he came up with was a sort of hybrid of The Boyfriend's parody of '20s musical plotting and attitude and Chrysanthemum's white slavery plot.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

I can't wait to see it in October when it comes to Boston! A good old fashioned, feel-good musical! re: 'The Boyfriend' @ Goodspeed is TOP Notch
