I wanted to call PETA for that poor horse. Apparently it just hangs out waiting to carry silly actresses 100 feet down an ugly hallway thing.

Does anyone else think the candles just look stupid in the movie? In my opinion it was a really cool scene change on stage but on screen it just looked wierd? Maybe it's me?

What, you mean the candlelabras held by the hands? I thought they were ok, but there was one arm in the front that was in an awkward position.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

In PONR, the setting was like kinda bad. I mean, those tin "pretend fire" thingamajigs kept on swaying in the backround were annoying. (not the fabric/tissue paper red pretend fire[or whatever you want to call them] it was the silver ones that bothered me a lot.)
Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky. With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high! Blood-red were the spurs i' the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat, when they shot him down on the highway, down like a dog on the highway, and he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat...

If you think about it (if Erik actually had a swanbed and the dummy of Christine and his pipe organ) he actually stole everything...oh, and don't forget Raoul's engagement ring he bought for Christine.

Do any of you visit the IMDB message board for the POTO movie? You should go there if you don't. It's a lot of fun especially this person Kimmi (i think) who posts hilarious alternate lyrics for many of the songs!
The Willy Wonka part mentioned here reminded me of the alternate lyrics she wrote for the title song:
(to the tune to "In all your fantasies...")
Phantom: Release the safety bar,
leave to the right,
purchase a photograph,
$4.95....
AND...
Phantom: (to the tune of "Sing once again..")
Be careful in the boat,
please stay in line,
please keep your arms and legs,
in at all times...
-i didn't write the above-

haha ohhh, the interpretive dancers. my "favorite" part of the movie.
i was sitting in the theater, mouth wide open, and in my horror I YELLED to my friend (yes, in the movie theater during the movie) "annnd, they just singlehandedly ruined this song for me for the rest of my life."
that is my absolute favorite song in the show. what the hell.

LOL!
About the candles and his lair: It's going to be hard to walk through his lair with out catching on fire.
.............................................................
I was thinking, this movie and Moulin Rouge have a lot of things in common. I mean, they both have a love triangle. Lots of red and black and heartbreaks. A rich guy and a not so rich guy (or good=looking guy as in the case for the Phantom) And both take place in Paris.

The horse was part of Christine's fantasy, the way she perceives things when his "power" is over her. Just like the arms in the hallway. Also, they make it seem like the horse goes 2 feet when it was supposed to show them travelling deeper in the the pits of the Opera House.

Phantom (in PONR): Anywhere you go let me go too. Christine, that's all i ask of--
*Christine unmasks Phantom*
Phantom: HAHAHA! I am Phillip Quast as Javert in the 10th Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables!!!! And I will fall off a bridge again on purpose! But this time i will LIVE!!
(everytime i see the unmasking in the movie, Gerry's face reminds me so much of Javert in the 10th anniversary concert of Les Mis!)
