The Color Purple/Something Rotten Seating

Hey Broadway theater-goer-friends! I need your help! For those of you that have seen "Once" (currently "The Color Purple"The Color Purple/Something Rotten Seating or "Something Rotten" at either the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater or St. James Theater...where is the best place to sit? I'm thinking of seeing one of the two but I have no idea where the best seats are. Help?? Thanks! ???

Anywhere downstairs is good for Color Purple, particularly center...

..Same is true with Something Rotten, even sides are perfect.

If you are a fan of dancing, don't sit TOO close to the front for Something Rotten. There are a lot of heavy tap routines, and from the first few rows, it's difficult to see their feet. If you don't care about that, though, the view from up close is great.

I'm also working on a limited budget of like $70-$100 so I'm looking for like the Mezz/Rear Mezz sections of the theater. I'm only 16 years old!

The mezz is good for Something Rotten.

They have a rush and a digital lottery. If you miss the rush tickets, they will sell you balcony tickets for $37. They are high up, but the view is not bad. I was there last week, and the $37 balcony tickets were supposed to be partial view, but one of the box office ladies said they could sell full view for $37.

She gave me a center orchestra seat for $93.

Try TKTS for Something Rotten. I went there at 6pm on a November day and got a Row G, dead center for no more than 80 dollars. I think the snow will double your chance of getting a good seat. In terms of Color Purple, they have discount codes on Playbill, Theatremania... I got a Row D, center orchestra for about 100 dollars, which is listed as a Premium on Weekends. Try to look for Tue/Wed/Thur tickets. If you are going alone, you will normally have better odds of getting a nice deal.

For Color Purple, whatever you do avoid front side seats. There are these baskets that come out for Act 2 that stay onstage half the act, and are on the higher levels of the stage, so if you are in the first few rows of orchestra left or right, you miss a lot. I was first row on the aisle and even in the first row, I had to angle my head into the aisle to see what was happening because of the huge baskets in front me. Actually shocked they're sold as full-view seats.

I say in the first row mezz for something rotten. I used a bbox discount and got a seat next to a premium seat for 30% off. Not as cheap as TKTS but it was probably one of the best non-premium seats in the house. The mezz at the st James is great!

I sat in the right orchestra but along the aisle for color purple and that was obviously a good seat. I wouldn't have wanted to be much farther to the side.
