I saw Raul in Rocky Horror (3), Taboo (3 out of 4) since he was out the Sunday before recording the OBCR and Normal Heart (2) so far and counting.

Wish I could have seen his other performances too. I did get to Embrace, the Matthew Shepard Foundation benefit and the William Finn review.

Always an incredible experience.

Hey, I was at that Taboo performance... I just posted it on the other thread.

Sorry you missed Raul. You would have loved him in Taboo. I went to the NH thread to answer you. Like I said Raul is a totally electric performer.

I thought I'd post for anyone who has NY1 and is interested that Raul was interviewed on "On Stage" this weekend, talking about The Normal Heart. The show will rerun 3 or 4 times between today and Monday, so check local listings for showtimes.

I just saw another thread on this. I'm cursing the fact that I don't get NY1 up here. Anyone wanna tape this for me? PM's are welcome....

I just listened to the online re-broadcast of Raul's interview on NY1. They played some clips from the play, and he spoke for a few minutes about how he got involved, what it's like to do the play, etc. I love listening to him speak.... he's so well-spoken, and you can just tell how intelligent he is.

Yay Raul!

The only way i will go to Normal Heart at this point is if I go with this group-and i've never met any of you! As i said in an earlier post, i have seen so many friends die--i fear this play will break my heart all over again.

Hello fellow Esparza Heads - I spoke to Raul yesterday about the Brooklyn, the Musical rumor and whether Normal Heart is headed to Broadway. I posted on the NH thread.

I am interested in a field trip to Normal Heart with you all. I think it would be good to support midtowngym, if they would like to go see the show. For me, it would have to be soon due to a planned trip at the end of July. I am coming back just in time to catch the last performance of NH on August 15. So excited .....

Ruffian - I also hope you're feeling better very soon!

Sorry, to be posting so late to this thread, but you just have to count me in the "Esparza Heads" group!! I absolutly adore Raul!! The fist time I saw him was in Rocky, and ever since then I have been hooked!!

yayyyy for increasing the head count!!

I just got a PM saying that midtown is out to dinner, but I'll pass on the word, adampascalgal. Happy to have you.

And now, thanks to taboo17, Raul knows about his crazy fan club!! lol, I want to know how he reacted to that news!

As for a field trip... it would be difficult to schedule, but we could sure try. I'm basically, for rather complicated reasons, limited to Sundays unfortunately. But I don't have to be there... it's more important that we support midtown.

He just looked a bit surprised, but not in a bad way. I would hope that it gave him a warm, fuzzy, loved kind of feeling. re: The Esparza HeadsSundays would work for me but would have to be either July 11 or 18th. Other times could also work. I am going August 15 to the last performance. I already have my seat but I could still met you all.

haha, as long as it wasn't a bad sort of surprised. Did he say anything? I'll have to introduce myself as a founding member! Just imagine us all showing up there. I hope it gives him a warm, fuzzy feeling too.

I already can see fellow Esparza Heads handing me kleenex as I weep like a baby. It's a comforting thought. I know i will regret missing it when i'm in the Harvey Milk nursing home, in 2041, listening to Raul's retirement discussion on Theater Talk (with an even grouchier Michael Riedel, if that's possible), and all agreeing that the Normal Heart was possibly his finest performance.

Okay, so...

I had a dream last night that I had to sing "There's a Fine, Fine Line" from Avenue Q at my high school graduation. And lo and behold, John Tartaglia, Hunter Foster, RAUL, and the entire Tony nomination committee are sitting in the audience (Why, I do not know)

So I get up on stage and sing the first two lines and then my mind goes COMPLETELY blank. I can't finish the song because I don't know the words, and I'm petrified and just stand there on stage.

So then, after about 15 minutes, Raul gets up and throws a piece of cheesecake at me and yells "YOU SUCK!!". So I run off the stage in tears. Hunter and John are saying "Oh, it's okay, everyone gets nervous..."

And Raul finds me and says "I'm sorry I threw the cheesecake, but you really do suck. Learn how to sing and LEARN THE SONG before you embarass me in front of all those people."

And then my boyfriend comes along and says "I'm sorry, but I can't be with someone who Raul Esparza does not respect."

WHAT THE HELL????

I have the weirdest dreams sometimes...I swear I'm not making this up...

And for what it's worth, that was the second night in a row I've had a dream involving John Tartaglia...but that's a different thread...

And sorry this post is so long, but I have to say that you suck for living near New York. I want to go on a field trip, but I live in Rhode Island and it's too much of a haul to see TNH...:'(
