I'm going on a trip to nyc with my family this December and would really like some advice! We are going for two days. The day we fly in I will have just enough time to catch Falsettos with my mother. The next day my whole family is seeing Great Comet matinee, and then the rest of my family is seeing the Front Page while I see Dear Evan Hansen, because they have no interest in it. The problem is that my mother has hinted that she would really like me to join them in seeing the Front Page, instead of DEH. Which should I go to? Thanks!

Yes, I agree! I enjoyed both, but DEH is special.

Your mom wants you to just throw away your DEH ticket?

DEH will make you realize how big your soul is. Don't miss it.

DEH --- and tell Mom it's time to cut the cord.
Dude, I'm sixteen. I'm lucky she's letting me go at all.

16? Yeah, surprising you would want to see a story about a high schooler set in a modern era and dealing with social media etc., rather than a 1928 three-act about newspaper reporters... ![]()

In that case, you should work on convincing your mom to join you at DEH!

Agreed. Seems like a show that would be great for you two to see together.

DEH is far more enjoyable then a long play set in the 20's for you and pr badly got family as well. Dear Evan Hansen not only being so relevant to today's world, it's funny, beautiful, and it will show you that everyone has a reason to live and be who they are. With stellar performances by Ben Platt, Rachel Bay Jones and the entire cast, your mom would be crazy to not let you go. If anything the whole fam should go.

I'm so glad that you are planning to see DEH. My niece just turned 16 and she and her mother saw it together. They both loved it and my niece can't wait to go back again, with her best friends. Perhaps if you show your mother the Youtube video of Ben Platt singing "Waving," and she reads the NYT review, she will better understand why DEH is the perfect choice for you. If it's possible for your mother to get a ticket too (even if it's too late for her to sit next to you), I think that your mother will also be blown away by this show. Good luck! And please let us know what happens.
