And your keyth oooooohhhhh!
Your ring of keyth!
I absolutely love this idea of the film version being animated. Having Alison be a real person drawing her graphic novel and then the novel coming to life could really be such a unique way of doing the movie. I hope they do something as creative and new as the show has been to Broadway.

Resolved, we the Fun Home lovers of BroadwayWorld feel that our ideas are best for the show. No thanks necessary except in the credits at the end of the film.
I would love this. I'd prefer it to be live-action, but I think having it animated with be more meaningful given the context. Ugh, I love this show so, so much.
I'm imagining a live-action "Telephone Wire." Twenties Alison starts the song, lens flare and we see 40s Alison singing "Say something, talk to him..." and back and forth like that until the song finishes at Alison's desk for the final line. I think live action could be beautifully wrought.
ETA: And let's start filming yesterday with Sydney Lucas as young Alison.
^ Yes, and from watching Sydney's performances from FUN HOME's off-Broadway run on YouTube, she's grown a bit. Perhaps it's just me, but there is a noticeable difference between Sydney then and Sydney now.

For one thing she used to be listed as Small Alison in the Playbill and now she's Young Alison.
Oh, I actually did not know that. Interesting. It will be a very dark day when Sydney outgrows that role. Don't want to think about that.
What's the age Range Young Alison has to play in that role? Isn't it, like, 5-13?
Hearing a 5 year old sing a song about discovering she's a lesbian would be beyond creepy.
I haven't seen the show, but I've read the book, and Bechdal was actually, and I'm quoting here from page 117, "Four or Five" when the Ring of Keys incident occurred. Obviously a Five year Old actress would be impracticle for a lot of reasons, and clearly this is a fictionalized account, but listening to the album, Young Alison sometimes appears relatively mature and sometimes a lot younger. Compare the opening "Daddy come here" lyrics to those of "Ring of Keys" or "Come to the Fun Home." My question is how much time does the show's "Young Alison" period cover?

the show doesn't give specific dates for any of the events shown. I agree that the song is more appropriate for a girl around 11 or so.
