Very excited about this! I hope they save time for a little chat with Patti. The broadway segments always seem to be so rushed. It's like: Intro-Song-End.
Finally, at first I thought there might be some sort of ban on LuPone with regard to early morning talk / news shows. Then when someone mentioned that she turned down a chance to appear on the Today Show, I thought perhaps she just refuses or is incapable of getting up in time to appear on national tv to promote her Broadway show.
Anyone ever see her on the Regis Philbin show? My folks are pretty regular watchers and they said they've never seen her. Last summer after the City Center reviews, I heard Regis saying how happy he was for her and I kept expecting to see her turn up there. I remember Andrew Gans noting that LuPone had never appeared on the Tonight Show during Carson's era which seemed odd. Even Betty Buckley had been a guest once or twice.
Then when someone mentioned that she turned down a chance to appear on the Today Show, I thought perhaps she just refuses or is incapable of getting up in time to appear on national tv to promote her Broadway show. she also doesn't live in New York. I certainly wouldn't want to come home after midnight only to wake up a few hours later to commute into New York to make an appearance on a morning talk show.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

since there have apparently been illness issues in the cast, i'm sure patti is avoiding singing on morning shows to save her voice. They'd all have her sing "Everything's Coming up Roses" and that's a big one to be singing at 9 AM when you're ill and have 8 performances a week playing the King Lear of musical theatre.
and since they have three drama desk winners and a heavily lauded supporting actress performances, I'm sure most of the shows will put Benanti out there to do her thing - I'm sure there will be at least one or two daytime performances of "If Momma Was Married".
I just REALLY hope Patti does "Rose's Turn" at the Tonys. I mean, she's just got to...
