Much as I dislike this look, it looks like something that might have been produced in 1996 in the basement of a cafe or something...more like "Rent" as a performance piece and not as a musical meant for the the stage. Interesting. At least they've actually re-interpreted the sets and costumes--a lot of international productions seem to do variations on the original, and they just end up looking glossed-up and amateurish (Bolivia, anyone?).
