Not quite as bizarre as the Swedish A CHORUS LINE but pretty damn funky:

A German tour hitting small cities. Michael Grief clearly was not involved. My favorite is the picture of Roger holding what looks like a syringe to me.

The Angel kind of looks like Jack Lemon in SOME LIKE IT HOT.
I imagine this is very much what the show is going to look like when it hits the community theatre circuit in another couple of years

I don't mind the set at all actually...although I think they could have gone farther with it.

Posted: 10/9/06 at 8:21pmMuch as I dislike this look, it looks like something that might have been produced in 1996 in the basement of a cafe or something...more like "Rent" as a performance piece and not as a musical meant for the the stage. Interesting. At least they've actually re-interpreted the sets and costumes--a lot of international productions seem to do variations on the original, and they just end up looking glossed-up and amateurish (Bolivia, anyone?).

Posted: 10/10/06 at 1:26amI kind of like the look. As much as I love the original staging and overall design, I think this design could work well. However, I don't really like how they costumed JoAnne, she looks too sloppy to pass for a professional lawyer Harvard grad type.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 1:55amLooks cool to me. I would hope no one thinks that it should be designed and staged like the Broadway and National Touring productions--it's not that production of Rent.

Posted: 10/10/06 at 11:49amI don't think it looks half bad. It definitely could have been taken further, but it's already better than the dreadful Broadway set.
