Hello,
Last Thursday I attended the matinee of "The Glass Menagerie". I was in Row B in the orchestra (Partial view seat, but nothing too bad) and as I was waiting for the show to begin as a man in the first row accidentally grazed the top of the stage. I would've thought nothing of it since I've done it before, except this jell-of-sorts sprang up and then settled back into place. Then the usher (The Booth has a great front of house staff by the way) told the man and others to not touch the stage.
So, I know the stage reflected everything (the crescent moon) on the stage. Does anyone know exactly how they did it? Just curious.
The play itself was beautiful and one of the best experiences I've had in 2013 and most likely many years to come.

Posted: 1/1/14 at 11:09pmI read an article online for a paper in college about the design of the revival and I recall it saying that it is a mixture of water, food dye, and glycerol. I'm on the train at the moment, but when I get home I will look for the article.

Very interesting. I did a quick search and found this article, but not the NY Times one.

Wow. Thanks for the article!
That is very interesting.
I do remember seeing it moving quite often from my seat. Especially when Laura fell.
The staging of the show was beautiful.
Thank you again for the information.

We sat in the first row, and a lady touched it, even though the very nice female usher had asked the lady, who had come down to our row so that she could hover very close over it, NOT to touch it.
The lady touched it and got black goo on her hand and tried to rub it off but it didn't come off.
Those of us in the front row had no sympathy for her.

I went up to the stage and asked one of the front of house, who said it's water with a dye in it which, if you lean against, will stain your clothes. And standing 5 inches from it, that's just what it looked like.

Posted: 1/4/14 at 2:07pmI haven't seen it yet, having been out of town for the past three months, but the production photos have me so excited to make my way to the Booth in the next week or so. I actually can't think off the top of my head of one production that either of these two have designed that has disappointed me in terms of the visuals that they are able to create.

^ Wait until you see the disastrous designs both of them created for Aladdin. Two of the countless problems with that show.

So that thing that looked like a Shark's fin was the crescent moon?
I'm usually good with symbolism, but I didn't come close to figuring that one out.

The last revival of Desire Under The Elms had boulders being suspended by ropes over the stage. No ideas re the symbolism there. Hey I still have no ******* idea what the last scene of 2001 meant. Visually stimulating but the movie was a big borefest.
