Qualifications:
1. Each director must have directed at LEAST 4 Broadway productions past the year 1989.
2. Age does not matter
Today (Until May 3 at 9:30 PM), each voter may add up to 2 directors to the list. Users can only submit their choices ONCE per day. Once we have our list, each director will have 5 points. Each day, voters can SUBTRACT (not add) one point from ONE director (each user will only do this once a day). The last director left will be deemed the best director of our generation.
I'll start with five directors.
Jerry Zaks
Joe Mantello
Michael Grief
Harold Prince
Jack O'Brien

First of all, Prince is not of this generation. Second, you severely limit the scope by making one of the qualifications "Broadway."
With that in mind, my suggestions are:
My additions are Matthew Warchus, Anne Bogart, Nicholas Hytner, Nicholas Martin, Bartlett Sher, Susan Stroman.

^ Really? Harold Prince is not this generation? Harold Prince didn't direct LoveMusik, Show Boat, Parade, Candide, and Hollywood Arms?
here we go again

Doug Jones does not qualify
Ack, I'm sorry I meant Doug HUGHES

I was going to put Joe Mantello. As a joke. But I see he's already here seriously.
Ill add Michael Greif and James Lapine into the mix.

^ Weather or not you like him, he has had an impact on the productions of our generation. I personally disliked his work in Wicked, but I did quite like his work in Assassins.

List so far
Jerry Zaks
Joe Mantello
Michael Grief
Harold Prince
Jack O'Brien
Doug Hughes
George C. Wolfe
James Lapine (Great Choice)
And why have you ignored YankeeFan's suggestions? All of them are better choices than several on your list.

whoever mentioned Nicholas Martin --- NO.

Why are you trying to copy PG2's competition?
as we can see by WickedFan's sad attempts, It never works.
And besides... I'm not sure you can totally judge the "Greatest Director" -- too many variables. a lot of it depends on the material, the amount of artistic freedom/control, the rest of his or her staff, etc. f

You might want to throw Mike Nichols in there.
I think, by far, Simon McBurney.

Jack O'Brien
Doug Hughes
George C. Wolfe
James Lapine
Michael Mayer
Bart Sher
Smaxie, make sure you read my rules carefully. YankeeFan named too many, only two are allowed. Out of the new names mentioned Michael Mayer and Bart are the only ones that qualify.
Then, according to your rules, you should change the title of the thread to "The Greatest BROADWAY Director of our Generation".

I call discrimination on the OP. Probably hasn't even heard of half the people I posted.
Weather?
Diane Paulus. She completely hid all of the flaws in Hair with her directing of the revival.
What about ROBERT LONGBOTTOM? I liked what he did with Side Show, and loved what he did with The Scarlet Pimpernel SP2.0 - 4.0!

Wait i'm confused, why didn't yankeesfan' suggestion of Susan Stroman count if you counted the others?
