I still can't get over what a ridiculous casting choice this is!

re: The Insider Reports on Rosie in Fiddler

Just as ridiculous as Harvey as Tevye. Harvey can sing, Rosie really can't. Neither are right for their roles in FIDDLER.

But in the end I don't care. I welcome Rosie to Broadway any day.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I guess we'll just have to wait and see! Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised. I always try to give the performer the benefit of the doubt, otherwise they will always "do poorly", but only because I went in with a sour impression.
I hold a degree in Musical Theatre from Montclair State University. It is useless. Now I'm funny for money. Oh, and I sing.

Personally I'm surprised she's doing this. It was no secret that she did not like the repetitiveness of having to do 8 shows a week when she was in Grease.

Did you see Harvey is Fiddler or just making a quick judgement.

He was brilliant in the role. Neither role requires much legit singing.

re: The Insider Reports on Rosie in Fiddler

What makes Harvey great in the role is that he has the heart and soul for it. I don't see Rosie as Golde. It has nothing to do with singing - Andrea doesn't sing so well either.

re: The Insider Reports on Rosie in Fiddler

My concern is not so much her singing ability. If you listen to the cast recording with Topol, the woman playing Golde (can't think of her name offhand) isn't what you'd call a great singer. I saw Harvey and mostly liked him in the part.

Rosie just seems wrong for the part to me. She's too much of a presence. I always think of Golde as a woman who looks rather meek and diminutive on the outside but is really the strongest person in the show. It'd be like Ethel Merman playing the part. Not a good fit.

re: The Insider Reports on Rosie in Fiddler

I'm sorry, but my friend has worked with Rosie and apparently she's pretty tough to work with. I dunno? Who is she playing? Because singing does count in musicals ya know. No offense.
you say i'm weird! look at everyone you're sitting with! and hey, those guys over there just threw napkins up in the air like they were on something! it's contajous! you can't help it!

How come I haven't seen this in print anywhere? It's not on broadway.com, playbill.com, even broadwayworld.com. I think someone just started this rumor to get people talking.

I saw this on a Broadway site somewhere but not sure which one. It was also in one of today's NY papers.

If true, this just sounds like a train wreck.

re: The Insider Reports on Rosie in Fiddler

harvey has so much soul-- i really believed him as the "poppa". he does what he can with his limited register. i love him as a presence and he is a star. i can see that not everyone is going to go for him. i don't much care for this production -- aside from the obvious chagall references in the set. i've never seen rosie onstage. i have seen her in tv & movies and real life. (that riding the bus tv movie has quickly become one of my all-time favorite camp-fests) i hope to be pleasantly surprised...maybe her experience as a mother will inform her in some way. can she take direction?

re: The Insider Reports on Rosie in Fiddler

She has a huge passion for all things Broadway and was a real suprise in Riding the Bus with My Sister, I say bring on the personality and let's have fun.

Now if I could only snag a limited run as Yente....TO LIFE!
