The Judas Kiss at BAM

Anyone see this? Looks interesting to me, but I'd love to hear any reports.

Also, this feels like a bit of a long-shot, but has anyone tried rushing it? I know BAM has a rush policy but I don't know how often they actually sell rush tickets.

this is a transfer from London so there should be reviews of it there. In fact I know there are because the pull quotes are plastered all over the marketing.

The Judas Kiss at BAM

Just back from tonights performance...

I saw the original in 98 and like many felt it was oddly cast and clunky. Each act was a separate play in itself and there are odd tag scenes on the end of each act that confuse the audience as to whether it's over or not. Like many I enjoyed the gratuitous male nudity which was the reason why many people stayed for the second act.

Recently David Hare stated that this production was much better than the original so I decided to give The Judas Kiss a second chance.

It's exactly the same except this time the set is UGLY! I get the fact that this is essentially a UK tour that has come to BAM but the set looks as if there was no budget and they pulled some hard flats from stock and re dress them for each act. Rupert Everett is good but heavily micd while the others are not so there's an odd sound issue there. It's still clunky and there is still lots of wonderful gratuitous male nudity. If you saw the original in 98 you can skip this one unless you're a fan of Everett.

each act is one hour with a 20min interval in-between. There is no merch, no gunshots and as I said above: LOTS of cock.

Tonight there were lots of empty seats in each price range. .

Saw it in Toronto because it got raves. Rupert is quite good but the show is a snooze. Two long skits with no action and banal banter. I agree with the cheap, ugly and uninventive set. I feel bad for the actor who does nothing but stand naked and nod for the whole second act.

There were plenty of open seats at the Sunday matinee. The nudity is extremely exciting but unfortunately the play is a bit boring.
