I just read someone's hijacking of another thread to attack Patti and I realized something.

All you Patti-haters are absolutely correct that there is a hysteria to the Patti-lovers who are absolutely out of control right now, ranting and raving every which way as the days dwindle down to Tony Sunday and their beloved diva is either crowned or, in theirs eyes, slapped in the face.

The odd thing, though, is how passionate the Patti-haters are right now. It's one thing to hate her and even post about it, but the constant jumping on to even tangentially related threads to disparage LuPone is almost as obsessive as the behavior of her fans.

I think it's all fun/funny.

I was just pointing out that, as Patti-fans, our passion is understandable - perhaps misguided, but it make sense in context of our worship for La Divina as opposed to the fierce hatred on the other side... Why are the haters SO passionate. I abhor lots of Broadway performers, but I don't go out of my way to bash them.

I don't "hate" Patti, since I do not know her on a personal level. But I do not enjoy listening to her sing or watching her act, I find it annoying.

I agree, both sides are crazy. I was amazed by Patti's performance in Gypsy (unfortunatly, the first and only time I've seen her) and truly respect her work, but I'm not a crazy fangirl, constantly obsessing about LuPone every chance I get.

And there are those who have a different opinion and don't love her work, but nobody really has to bash Patti fans every time her name's mentioned. The whole thing is rediculous! People should be allowed to have an opinion with out extreme Patti-lovers or Patti-haters attacking them for it.
