It's rare to see such fully committed performances in throwaway shows. THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES is such a show and the performances are fully committed.
It's an enjoyable little musical, one of the better jukebox musicals I've seen. Why? Not a lot of dialogue, just songs and an outline of a plot.
The performers - Farah Alvin, Victoria Matlock, Beth Malone and Bets Malone - manage to convey more of a plot in their facial expressions and body language than in any piece of dialogue. Their enthusiasm is infectious and you can tell they're having fun. Always a plus when you can visibly see that the performers are having a good time.
Matlock was my particular favorite - pretty girl, pretty voice.
Audience was full, had a great time, standing ovation before it was over.
See y'all in a month!
saw the show last week and loved it! i thought beth malone was freaking hilarious lol. def. my fav but yes matlock was also great.
Lots of fun, terrific voices indeed. It's also one you can take the folks or neighbors or colleagues too (those who don't see a lot of theater) and be pretty sure they'll enjoy it.

Did anyone else have audience members dancing and groovin' at intermission? I might have to go back and see it. I thought it was excellently sung and acted.
I've seen this show twice and I had such a blast! I love that they used "classic songs" and yet with their energy and enthusiasm, it didn't feel flat or overdone.
It's so refreshing to see such a fun, clean-cut show that isn't overly cheesy and is actually enjoyable.
There's not much to the show but it's enjoyable. Of the four, Farah Alvin stood out for me the most. She has such a wonderful voice.

My voice teacher is one of the understudies (or as they call it in the show "wonderstudy") and we were talking about the show and how I had seen it once and I enjoyed it. She hooked me up with a very cheap "faculty ticket" and I was happy that I got a house seat for a very low price. She told me how normally she leaves the show at the very end but because she knew that I was seeing it she showed me where the stage door was and she wanted me to wait for her because she wanted to introduce me to the cast and wanted to see what I thought of the show. I did, and when she and the cast cmae out they were all very friendly. I was taking the subway with my voice teacher and it was kinda cool how I was walking to the subway with all of the Wonderetts. They were all talking to me about my reactions to the show etc. It was fun.
I must say that I went in not sure if I was going to like it and I went in thinking that it would mostly be a concert type thing. But, I was very happy that there was a story line and I was happy that act two did have a different story. But, it was a very well developed story and that was not something I had seen in any jukebox musical before.
will this still be there come March??
my friend and I are coming early March and want to see an off-broadway show and I really want to see this!!
It should be there.
It played in LA for over a year.

It should be (it's a great show!) but with the state of the economy these days, nothing is for sure.
If it is still playing definitely go for the student rush tickets! An hour before curtain, whatever is left for $25.
