No, I legitimately wanted to know. Do they use the rotate more often in the revival than before?
I absolutly love Drew... saw him as Grantaire, and he was way funny, real noce at the Stage door, too...
You can tell he wasnt too excited about the extension. Its clearly visible in the backstage video on broadway.com when he is talking to Gary Beach.
Can you go into a bit more detail? I'll go back and watch that video but I'm not sure what to look for.
"Why is there always an understudy on for Enjolras?"
Because that's what happens when you're understudy is Drew Sarich.
Favorites are Celia and Lea - perfect for the parts!!!!

I have yet to see Lea, but I LOVED Nikki for Fantine. I didn't get to see Haviland when she was on but I'm hoping to catch her next Monday at At This Performance...
I also really loved Marissa McGowan as Eponine...I'd love to see Megan...

Megan is fabulous!
I hope she gets the role when Celia leaves.
I saw the Wednesday matinee this past week and fled at intermission. This production has no magic, no spark. Everything about Act 1 was horrid, from the dreadful Prologue to Norm Lewis' cheery, funsy rendition of "Stars". Gemignani is PAINFUL to listen to and Salonga has no idea how to play Fantine. I don't even want to think about Jacobs' Marius or that truly awful Cosette. Gary Beach goes way off the cuteness deep end.
Only Lazar, Galloway and what little I saw of understudy Marissa McGowan were passable. LES MIZ is hard to screw up, but this current company does it with flying colors.
just posted a review on a new thread!
"The revolving stage was used more so the storyline went on faster. "
"So what spun that had not spun before?"
This is BY FAR one of the best exchanges I have ever seen on this board!

Well, 1) I don't think the revolve is spinning any more than it has in the past. 2) How would you even notice if it was revolving a few spins more?

I know this is a week ago, but um...what was LizzieCurry bitching about?

I saw this revival when it was still in previews and I agree that DRV was the weakest in the cast. I saw it again with Lea as Fantine and she was amazing. She did say in an interview that she read the book again and tried to play the part as the novel described her to be.
First time I saw it, I thought Celia was great. Friday night, I thought Celia's singing was off. Her acting lacked energy too. It was definitely up to par with her performance before.
Aaron Lazar was on and he did look bored with himself throughout the show. BTW I have seen him as Enjolras both times.
and Salonga has no idea how to play Fantine
explain, since the only way I can see anyone getting it wrong other than not having the chops to sing "I Dreamed a Dream" is to play Fantine as happy and care free

Who is confirmed to be leaving? I'd like to see Celia again, if she does leave!
I personally thought Aaron was awesome. Then again, this was in November. The rest of the cast was great too!(even Daphne!)
oh just a sidenote..
when i was talking to norm lewis at the stagedoor [such a nice man, seriously] i was praising his performance and said.. "so, little mermaid, that is so wonderful! are you excited?"
and he laughs and goes "how did you know about that.. i don't know.." all kind of funny and sarcastic. and i was like "i, uh, jsut hear things. little mermaid? what little mermaid, i guess i'm just making stuff up" and then he laughed really hard, lol.
so even though we hear it all over the place, i guess he still can't talk about.
that's funny...
because he was talking about it...
at the stage door...
with several people...
including myself...
hmm...

Well, for one she was vocally uncommanding. I know she can sing, and usually I would say that she was having an off-day, but if you've only been with the show for a week and you're already having off-days, there's a serious problem there. And yes, she totally didn't get the character. I didn't register one iota of sadness, grittiness or vulnerability in her performance. She just seemed detached. At the end of "I Dreamed a Dream," I half expected her to glance at her watch and say, "Are my twenty minutes over yet?"
I'm just glad Daphne Rubin-Vega is gone. I would rather hear a sackful of cats -otherwise known as Fantasia Barrino- than listen to her ruin Fantine.
