I tried to visit Talkin' Broadway's All That Chat just a few moments ago and received this message:

You think perhaps it might be an April Fool's Day joke?
I do.
D'oh! I completely forgot what the date was! You are probably correct! Nice.
I should have seen that coming a mile away...let the April Fool-ishness begin.
Probably? Try definitely.
And this is why I avoid the internet at all costs on April 1st. :)
Yet here you are.
The odd thing is the message is still there. Do you think it's true or did they get hacked again? I can't see them being down as an April Fools joke.
I don't think this is a joke. And I'm very upset because I donated money to them so they could buy the software needed to prevent hackers from taking down the board. Now they have my money AND the money from The New York Times. What a scam!
Has anyone received anything in their inbox yet?
Nothing in the inbox - whether joke or hack, it's stupid and unfunny.
In a way, I hope it's for real, because it would give me a good excuse to stop going to that site...
I received nothing in my e-mail's inbox. Has anyone checked the website for The New York Times? Did they post a story about buying the popular message board? And did they just buy the "All That Chat" board or its parent website (TalkinBroadway.com)? I sure would like some answers!
Every year ATC gets loaded with April Fools Joke threads. Maybe its their way of not having to deal with all the pointless threads that would be created. The moderators always get annoyed on April Fools day with the amount of jokes.
Michael Musto posted a story about this but had no answers. The moderators should post an explanation.
I don't think the New York Times is in a financial position to buy anything right now, much less a niche message board that will offer virtually no revenue.
Not to mention, why on EARTH would they buy All That Chat?
Calvin, you may be right. I used to work in publishing, and I forgot that newspaper companies are just about dead. I still think the moderators at "All That Chat" could have come up with a funnier joke. Why didn't they just say they were down for maintenance or an update to the site? Sounds kinda crazy to me!

if it is a joke, it is a bad taste one!

It's an April Fool's Day joke. Anyone who has ever been on the board on APril FOols Day knows that the board is inendated with "joke" messages. I guarantee you today would have been filled with "SPIDERMAN wins the Pultizer" and "Patti Lupone to play the title role in new ANNIE revival" posts.
Looks like they decided to take the day off and not deal with all the crap that makes the board completelu useless every April 1st.

From a reliable source, confirmed as April Fool's Day joke
People took this seriously even after remembering the date? Wow...
They're back.
Our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch.
Puppies are babies in fur coats.
Tinfoil...The Terrorizing Terminator
What would the NY Times want with ATC? And who would they have moderate the board? Brantley and Isherwood?
I'd probably pay to see that.
"People took this seriously even after remembering the date? Wow..."
Because it isn't remotely funny, witty, clever...
