After hearing the radio spot, my interest is at an all-time high. I honestly didn't think that was possible, after the last set of photos sent me into the stratosphere. To me (even before seeing the show), shows like this and the others we are getting around Springtime are the payoff for last season's dry-spell on Original Musicals. Just the idea of a musical based on an Almodóvar film is enough to make me smile. The fact that the composer is gifted, the cast is impeccable(sidenote: I didn't realize until the last set of photos that Grams was in the cast! Huge 90s grin moment for me), and the bit of the score released sounds intriguing only adds to the greatness. I can not wait for the Breakdown.
Previews pushed back to Oct. 8th now. Anyone heard anything through the grapevine what is holding it up? They were doing sitzprobe yesterday.
They better not push it back again.. I have tix for Oct 9 at 8pm!
I read on another board that ensemble members said it was a mess but, Sher does most of his work in previews.
I guess we shall see.

I have tickets with my theatre class to go on October 7th. I guess we'll have to find a new show to see now. What a shame this was the show I was most looking forward to.
I just got back from the box office to re-buy my tickets again! Hopefully the show will come together by next Friday...I still want it to be good.
Mr. Sher is a great director and usually has his projects well prepared in concept execution, etc. I would hazard a guess that tech. tweaking has to be worked out more. That's what goes on w/his other shows Lots of fine tuning..
I absolutely adore the work I've seen of Bartlett Sher, but I must confess most of his major successes have been reworkings of revivals. Even LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA when it was originally producd regionaly at the Intiman was dircted by Craig Lucas.
Directing a brand new musical from scratch requires a totally different talent - hopefully Sher keeps his stellar track record strong with this one...
Delayed again! Wow, this is worse than Spiderman!
From what I understand, it's a complex set with numerous changes of settings. I'm sure that they want to make sure that everything works out as well as possible for a paying audience. They probably don't want any Billy Elliot malfunctions to happen and are trying to smooth out any remaining kinks. I trust Bartlett Sher. Yes, this is the first time he's seeing an original musical all the way through the creative process, but I still have faith. If you see any clips of Light in the Piazza at the Intiman, when Lucas directed it, and compare it to what Sher created at the Beaumont, you'll see just how much Sher's creative input really benefitted the piece.

!!!! I have tickets for the 8th! Here's hoping they don't push it back any further. I'll be devastated if I miss this.
True Wickedfan, although I think Sher's greatest contribution to PIAZZA was the style he brought to the storytelling: the show did change some from Seattle, but Sher stepped into a situation (after the Intiman run) in which most of the dramaturgical work had been finished on the piece. That is still a very different thing than bringing a new property to fruition from scratch - but I also have faith Sher will find a way to bring it together.

As do I.
And the set changes are numerous. An entire rehearsal room at LCT was covered in some 40 model boxes.
Ah! I've had tickets for the past two "first previews". I'm not sure whether or not to try for the third. I might rather go when all of the technical glitches are worked out. (Although I have a feeling that I will be seeing this show more than once.)
I really hope that we all aren't getting our hope up too high for this one!
I hate to be that person, but do you think (if it is successful) that this will extend? Is there other plans for that theatre etc...
I think if they sell well now, it probably will extend a few times.I mean Patti LuPone in a limited engagement? I think even she wouldn't have that.
Not very concrete, but Danny Burstein said in a recent interview he hopes it will extend. I would take that to mean the cast at least hasn't been told it will not.
I was just going to say, that LCT must have some deep pockets (surely after South Pacific) to mount such a technical production for a mere three month engagement.
And I wouldn't be so sure about Patti, her Gypsy experience was quite grueling according to her book (though she wont have the weight of the entire show on her shoulders this time around). If I were her, I'd relish at the idea of creating a role for only a few months and not have to worry about the fatigue of a lengthy contract to complete.
