The Red Death Costume in POTO

I saw the movie version of POTO and I thought the The Red Death Costume was a kick ass suit and I've seen the Broadway costume and prefer the one from the movie.......why don't they use the movie costume in the stage version? Hugh would be kick ass in that costume.

What do you think?

The Red Death costume in the show has been there for almost 17 years
They're not going to change it now

I meant if they've used the one from the show forever how come they didn't use it in the film.

The mask was different though it was a half skeleton mask

Because the stage version came first, and they're not going to change it just because of the film?

thats true too..................I like Christines dress in the Masquerade seen on stage better than the one in the movie.

Yeah........like why was she in that pirate costume in the end.....I thought that was stupid. I wish the Phantom had sat in his seat and vanished like in the stage version rather than breaking glass and all of that and i wish they had left out the very end with the older Raul going to the grave scene.

i think the Red Death costume in the stage version is also much clearer to see from far away like in the rear mezz. i don't think the movie version would cut it for the Majestic.


yeah what the hell was with that last scene with Raoul in the movie. and i think pretty much all the costumes in the stage version are better. christine's nightgown which is pretty much the most famous costume for her character is far superior in the stage version.

meg giry's angel costume in the movie was really cute though. the actress is very pretty

The stage one is good for the stage. The film one looked very hot on Gerry so that was good. All it right with the world... *Skips off

The stage costume is way better, but the movie costume showed off Gerard's crotch area so that made the movie one nice too. the stage costume however is extremely hazardous and I feel sorry for all the actors who have to walk down those steps without being able to see clearly. as I have read that the mask provides little help in the vision department when combined with the stage lights. his lines for that scene are pre recorded which helps I guess, even though the last line "your chains are still mine..." is sung live and is the cue for the trap door. again, I'd hate to have to drop through a trap wearing that costume, I'd imagine it's never the highlight of the evening for any of the actors...

Yeah, they totally can't see well out of that mask. They literally have to feel for the steps when walking down them. And, at one point, isn't it a double? I could have sworn that there was a double in the "Masquerade" outfit because he got from one point to another way too quickly.

I dunno, I thought the costume was a bit more appropriate for the movie, just to show more of Gerry under there to keep the audience feeling in a more close-up feel. I agree the stage costume is perfect for the stage, but yeah. Oh well. A month and a day till the DVD comes out-woohoo!

I wonder if the film figured that people might not "get" it if they couldn't clearly see it was the actor playing Phantom.

In the show *which i have only seen in pictures and clips.re: The Red Death Costume in POTO* and in the movie the Red Death costume always makes me giggle...i don't know why..it's soo over the top and lovely...lol
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...
