Has anyone heard about this show? It's going to start performing at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami soon, and they're trying to make a big deal about it, sending out invitations to "launch meetings", starting a "ghost class" which they compare to Spring Awakening’s “Guilty Ones,” to spread the word about the show.
I'm not even sure if it's a musical or not. Anyone seen this yet?
It's not really a musical, no. It's honestly one of those things where the less you know going into it, the better. It ran forever here in Chicago and it was absolutely fantastic. Really, really fantastic. I should say though, that it was one of those shows where the production is as important as the script(which wasn't so amazing by itself) ... If they're recreating the original staging, you should most definitely go.

I have to say--maybe it was because it was so hyped up before I saw it during its commercial transfer here in Chicago, but I was rather disappointed. It was okay. I think that part of the problem was that what can be cool and edgy in a storefront theater for $20 can look amateurish on a commercial stage for $50. I'm curious how the piece will fare in other productions.
I never got around to seeing it here in Chicago, I really wanted to, though. I heard some great things about it.

Did anyone else see this, or is there a site where I can read this play? It sounds like a happy version of Carrie. I'm really intrigued...

I think it's a Samuel French play- I read somewhere that it was the most performed play this year or last. And that description (Happier Carrie) is apt. I heard comparisons to Wicked and Spring Awakening (which is probably why people thought it was a musical). Personally I found the script lackluster- it was the production that really sparkled. GREAT use of projections and music and a cast playing multiple roles that really worked.
I agree with The Distinctive Baritone. I thought it OK. I was bummed that I didn't like it more. The Chicago reviews were raves. Broadway in Chicago helped in the transfer to The Apollo Theatre. The show was over hyped. The plot is a little bit Carrie & a little bit of Wicked. It is not a musical.

The way that the Miami people are advertising it, it was hard to tell whether or not it was a musical. Like JoeKv said, they keep liking it to Wicked, Spring Awakening and Carrie (all musicals), but all of the advertisements keep referring to it as "the piece" or "the work", so I think they're trying to NOT say it's not a musical.
Either way, I've got my tickets, and I'm excited for it, if for no other reason than it's NOT Wicked, Mamma Mia, or Jersey Boys, all of which take up most of the theater season here in Miami every year.

I saw it in Chicago a few years ago and thought it was fabulous.
