The Wiz - The Broadway Theatre?

The Wiz - The Broadway Theatre?

Is it possible that Fiddler on the Roof will close and The Wiz will come into the Broadway Theatre? The size would work well for the acrobatics. There are not a ton of big musical houses that could become vacant. I guess the Lunt-Fontanne could also be a possibility.

As of now, Fiddler on the Roof doesn't really show any signs of closing anytime soon.

Is the Lyric booked for next fall? Since Cirq owns the theatre now, wouldn't The Wiz go into there?

Cirque most definitely does not own the theater. Paramour is set for an open-ended run as far as I'm concerned. The Wiz would be swallowed whole in a house like that.

Is The Wiz definitely happening? I know there was talk about it with the TV special, but I really have not heard anything truly official since then.

Is there anyone out there desperate for The Wiz to return to Broadway?

After the disappointing numbers on NBC, I don't see the appeal.

I think you had better review those numbers. They were far from disappointing.

Disappointing compared to Fox's Grease and Nbc's The Sound of Music.

But neither of those productions had the backing of producers saying that if the show was successful, they'll bring it to Broadway. I'd much rather them work on bringing Bombshell in before The Wiz - but it's still a possibility that The Wiz would show up this season. They definitely don't want Shanice Williams to outgrow the part.

I'd say it's probably most definitely coming- they'll find a house.

"Probably most definitely." Sounds promising.

wasn't there speculation that it would go to the Imperial - which is basically moot now since Natasha, Pierre is taking the theatre once Les Mis finishes.

Is NBC producing the announced Broadway production?  The ratings on the TV broadcast were just fine, though I think the reality is that the majority of the major 'names' from the broadcast aren't likely to commit to doing this on stage for an extended engagement.  So, the powers that be would have to weigh and feel confident that the production could still be successful with re-casting with (likely) lesser known talent.  The one thing you know for sure is that to do THE WIZ on Broadway will be expensive to produce.

i was under the impression that NBCUniversal was, in fact, one of the lead producers on a Broadway revival. haven't been able to find any published confirmation but could have sworn i read that at some point last year...  anyone else?
